ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Ichabods started the game on a 13-2 run and never gave up the lead in a 67-49 win Saturday at Missouri Western.

Washburn improved to 7-4 and 3-2 in the MIAA after going 12 days without playing during the holiday break. The Ichabods will stay on the road and play at eighth-ranked Central Missouri Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Washburn's top two scorers came off the bench as the starters had a slow start with just 11 first half points.
Taylor Ignoto led the Ichabods with 15 points and
Honor Duvall had 13. Jannelle Travis was the only starter in double figures with 10 points. Ignoto made 4 of 8 field goal attempts and 6 of 7 free throws.
MIAA leading scorer
Casyn Buchman was held to a season-low nine points. She went 1 of 5 from the field but made all six free throws. She contributed five rebounds and a game-high six assists.

Brittney Lynch led the team with seven rebounds and she added eight points while
Kara Lee had nine points, playing in foul trouble much of the game.

The Griffons got within three points in the first five minutes of the second half at 36-33. Three straight free throws from Ignoto pushed it back to nine and then a 3-pointer from Travis at 10:28 later made it 10 again. The Griffons never got closer than nine points down the rest of the way.

Washburn shot 44 percent from the field in the game and 70 percent from the free throw line. The Griffons shot just 30 percent from the field and made 65 percent of their free throws. MWSU edged Washburn in rebounds, 37-36 but committed 19 turnovers while the Ichabods had 13.

Neither team scored the first 2:40 of the game before Lynch hit a layup. Missouri Western scored its first points at the 14:52 mark and then didn't get another field goal until the 11:10 mark. That field goal started a 9-0 run for the Griffons that got them within three points at 15-12. Washburn pushed its lead to eight twice after that in the half and led by six, 30-24 at halftime.

The Griffons put just one player in double figures as Tiffanie Abrams had 11 points. Quenisha Lockett had seven rebounds.

Missouri Western lost its sixth straight game to fall to 4-6 and 0-4 in the MIAA. This was Washburn's eighth straight win in the series against MWSU.
