SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Washburn Ichabods went cold from the field during a stretch midway through the first half and could not recover in an 87-83 loss to Augustana. The Ichabods will return to action on Saturday when they will face No. 14-ranked Minnesota State who lost to Central Missouri 67-66 on Friday.
The Ichabods led by five at 21-16 in the first half on a jumper by
Andy Wilson with 9:41 to play in the first half, but the Vikings would go on a 21-6 run over the next 6:11 as Augustana took a 37-27 lead going 8 of 9 from the field during the run. Washburn went cold from the field as the Ichabods were 1 of 8 during the Viking run.
Washburn was 13 of 30 from the field in the opening half hitting 3 of 5 3-pointers while the Vikings shot 16 of 28 from the field including a scorching 8 of 13 from 3-point raange taking a 48 to 39 advantage in the break.
In the second half the Ichabods trimmed the lead back to four at 66-62 with 9:16 to play using a 5 of 7 stretch during the run as
Christian Ulsaker scored 9 points during run.
The Vikings stretched their lead out to seven at 69-62 to play with 7:24 to play and then stretch it out to nine at 71-62 before a 3-pointer by
Prince Samuels trimmed the lead back to six with 6:46 to play.
The Vikings pushed the lead back up to 11 with under four minutes before the Ichabods cut the lead back down to five with 1:06 to play after a 3-pointer by North prior to fouling out a second later.
The Vikings would hit a pair of free throws with 65 seconds left stretching the lead back to seven at 80-73. Washburn's
Kevin House hit a layup with 47 seconds to play pulled the Ichabods back within five.
An Ichabod fould put the Vikings back on the line with 41 seconds to play as Augustana hit both free throws going back up by seven and the Ichabods would get no closer than four the rest of the way in the four-point loss.
The Ichabods held the Vikings without a field goal over the final 4:03 of the game going 9 of 10 from the free throw line down the stretch in the win.
North led four players in double figures with 18 points adding six rebounds. Key scored 14 and Samuels and
Christian Ulsaker each scored 13. Ulsaker finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
Casey Schilling led four Vikings in double figures with 23 points adding 10 rebounds.
Washburn finished 30 of 60 from the field and 8 of 18 from the 3-point line. Overall the Ichabods were 15 of 27 from the free throw line.
The Vikings were 29 of 58 overall and 9 of 25 from the 3-point line. The Vikings were 1 of 12 in the second half from behind the arch. From the free throw line Augustana was 20 of 29 overall and 12 of 18 in the half.
