Micro-Blogging the Bods
The Ichabods will open their 31st season at Schendel Court in Lee Arena Tuesday when they host Benedictine at 5:30 p.m. They'll then host Drury Saturday at 7 p.m.
Washburn has won 15 straight home openers and is 33-10 all-time in home openers. The Bods are 374-68 (.846) all-time in Lee Arena.
The Ichabods went 2-0 last weekend in their first trip to Puerto Rico. They beat their two island opponents by an average of 38.5 points.
The 58-point win Sunday vs UPR-Rio Piedras was the second highest margin of victory against an NCAA school in Washburn history. The Bods' 62 rebounds Sunday was the highest in school history against an NCAA school.
Benedictine is 3-2 this year and will count the game Tuesday as an exhibition. The Ravens went 20-11 last year and tied for third in the HAAC at 12-6. Drury is 2-0 and plays Tuesday against Southwest Baptist. The Panthers went 27-4 last year and won the West Division of the GLVC. They advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.
The Ichabods were picked third in the MIAA preseason coaches poll with three first-place votes. They went 16-11 overall last year and finished 6th in the league at 11-8.
Honor Duvall set a career high with 22 points in the opener Saturday at UPR-Bayamon. She averaged 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds a game while shooting 56 percent from the field.
Haley Pfau set a career high against UPRRP with 14 points and she tied a career high with four made field goals and four made 3-pointers. She hit three quick 3s to help Washburn to an 18-2 lead.
Taylor Ignoto scored in double figures twice off the bench last weekend. She averaged 13.5 points a game and shot 50 percent from the field.
Duvall had a career-high five assists against UPRRP and Ally Nikkel also set a career high that game with five assists.
Ron McHenry is in his 15th season as coach. He has gone 360-82 since 2000 and has won eight MIAA titles with 12 NCAA tournament appearances. He coached the team to the 2004-05 national championship.

The Ichabods will open the 31st season at Schendel Court in Lee Arena with two games this weekend. Tuesday they host Benedictine at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday they host third-ranked Drury at 7 p.m.

The Ichabods are 2-0 after winning twice in Puerto Rico last weekend. Saturday they beat host school UPR-Bayamon 65-46 and Sunday they beat UPR-Rio Piedras 93-35. The Ichabods recorded the second largest margin of victory in that game against an NCAA school and the largest rebounding output against an NCAA school

Benedictine is 3-2 overall and is playing the game as an exhibition. Drury is 2-0 and will begin a mini slate of five games this year against MIAA opponents Tuesday against Southwest Baptist before coming to Topeka on Saturday.

Drury went 27-4 last year and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. The Ravens went 20-11.

Drury begins tour of MIAA schools with SBU and Washburn this week
The Panthers will play five of the 14 MIAA schools this year and that slate will begin Tuesday with a home game against Southwest Baptist and then a trip to Washburn Saturday. They then play Pittsburg State and Northeastern State the weekend after Thanksgiving and go to Central Missouri on December 15.

The Panthers played their first five games last year against MIAA schools and went 5-0 during the stretch.

Ichabods get one of biggest wins against NCAA opponent Sunday
Washburn's 93-35 win Sunday against Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras was the school's second largest against an NCAA school. The 62 rebounds was the largest against an NCAA school.

Washburn beat UPRRP by 58 points, the most against an NCAA school since beating Cal State-Stanislaus by 59 on November 24, 2005. Sunday's win was Washburn's largest ever win away from home and the ninth largest margin of victory in school history. The record was a 92-point win against NAIA school Tabor in 2011-12.

The 62 rebounds was the most against an NCAA school and it tied for the third most in  school history. Washburn grabbed 63 rebounds two different times against Southwestern (Kan.) to set the record.

Saturday's 57 rebounds against UPR-Bayamon tied for the fifth most rebounds in school history and it was the most Washburn had ever collected in a true road game.

The Ichabods lead the MIAA with 59.5 rebounds a game and a +33.5 rebounding margin.

Junior achievement
The seven juniors on the 2013-14 team accounted for 81 percent of Washburn's scoring and 79 percent of Washburn's individual rebounding. All four of Washburn's double-figure scorers came from the group, as did the top three rebounders. At least one junior led the team in scoring every game and in rebounding in all but two games. Kara Lee, the lone senior on the team, was the top non-junior contributor with 9.1 points a game and 4.4 rebounds. Freshmen and sophomores contributed six percent of the scoring and nine percent of the rebounding.

Coaches pick Bods third in MIAA preseason poll; WU earns three first-place votes
The Ichabods earned three first-place votes and were picked to finish third overall in the MIAA preseason coaches poll released October 22.

Washburn had 142 points in the poll while No. 2 Pittsburg State earned 153 points and five of the 14 first-place votes. Emporia State earned 160 points and five first-place votes and was picked to win the conference. Fort Hays State was picked fourth with the final first-place vote and defending champion Central Missouri was picked fifth.

Up next for Washburn
The Ichabods will play two NCAA II schools away from home the week of Thanksgiving. November 25 they'll play at Oklahoma Christian and November 29 they'll play at Newman.
Washburn played Oklahoma Christian for the first time last year in a 79-66 win. The Bods have not played Newman since 1994-95 and have not played at Newman since 1975-76. Washburn leads that series, 5-1.
