TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods led by 15 with 10 minutes remaining but were out-scored 32-11 the rest of the way in a 69-63 loss Wednesday night at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.

The Ichabods suffered their first losing streak of the year as they fell to 13-7 overall and 8-5 in the MIAA. They fell to sixth in the MIAA standings while ESU remained first in the league at 20-2 and 11-2. Washburn will wrap up a mini two-game home stand Saturday at 5 p.m. against Nebraska-Kearney nine days after they defeated the Lopers on the road.

Haley Pfau hit a 3-pointer at the 10:26 mark to give Washburn a 52-37 lead. Casyn Buch followed with a pair of free throws at 9:42 to put the Ichabods up by a game-high 17-points.

The Lady Hornets then chipped away at that lead by shooting 57 percent from the field (8 of 14) the final 10 minutes, 5 of 9 from 3-point range and 11 of 14 from the free throw line. Washburn made just 3 of 17 field goals down the stretch.

The Lady Hornets got within five with 7:16 to play but
Janelle Travis answered with a 3 a minute later that put the Bods back up by eight. Washburn scored just two more points after that as Emporia State ended the game on a 16-2.

Buchman led Washburn with 12 points and tied
Brittney Lynch with eight rebounds. Lynch added 10 points and Travis and
Taylor Ignoto joined them in double figures with 10 and 11 points, respectively.

Washburn shot 36 percent from the field while ESU was 41 percent in the game. The Ichabods shot just 29 percent in the second half. Washburn won the rebound battle 39-37 and had less turnovers than Emporia State at 15-17. The Hornets blocked 10 Washburn shots with Merissa Quick swatting six of them.

The Ichabods broke a 10-10 tie in the first half and went on to lead 25-15 at the 5:46 mark. The Lady Hornets pulled within four after that but Washburn ended the half on an 8-0 run to lead 35-23 at the break.

Washburn's lead stayed above 10 for most of the second half until ESU's run the final 10 minutes.

Quick led the Lady Hornets with 16 points as she was 8 of 11 from the field. Kionna Kellog had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
