Lynch gets double-double but Bods trail entire way in loss to Nebraska-Kearney

TOPEKA, Kan. – Brittney Lynch had her fifth double-double of the year but the Ichabods fell behind early and never recovered in a 53-61 loss to Nebraska-Kearney Saturday evening at Schendel Court in Lee Arena.
 
Washburn lost its third straight game and dropped to 13-8 in the MIAA and 8-6 overall. The Lopers snapped a six-game MIAA losing streak and improved to 8-13 and 4-10 in the league. The Ichabods will start a two-game road trip Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Central Oklahoma.
 
Lynch led Washburn with 16 points and 13 rebounds. She shot 4 of 5 from the field and 8 of 11 from the free throw line. Honor Duvall was Washburn's only other player in double figures with 10 points to lead the bench. She was 4 of 7 from the field.
 
The Lopers scored the first seven points of the game and used a 10-2 run to lead 20-7 with 12:22 left in the first half. They ended the half on a 12-3 run to lead by 17, 38-21 at the break.
 
Washburn started the second half on an 8-0 run to get within nine points and then was only six down at the 10-minute mark of the half. The Lopers pushed it back to 11 before Janelle Travis and Casyn Buchman briefly broke their slumps with a pair of 3-pointers that got Washburn within five at 46-41.
 
The Ichabods were down by six with 3:14 to play but went 0 for 6 from the field the rest of the way.
 
Washburn shot 32 percent in the first half and 33 percent in the second half while the Lopers were 44 percent in both halves. The Ichabods hit just one 3-pointer in the first half and ended the game 3 of 25. UNK was able to hit 8 of 14 from long range.
 
Washburn won the rebound battle, 35-34 but had 19 turnovers while UNK had 15. Neither team blocked a shot.
 
Amarah Williams led Nebraska-Kearney with 21 points as she went 10 of 18 from the field.Shelby Zimmerman just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
