TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods scored 30 runs adding 10 home runs in a doubleheader sweep over Texas A&M-International winning the opener 9-8 on a walkoff home run while winning the nightcap 21-2 in five innings. Washburn (9-3) returns to MIAA play at Fort Hays State on Saturday and at Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday.
Game 1 - WU 9, TAMUI 8
In the opener, Washburn trailed 8-5 entering the bottom of the seventh inning but home runs by
Lauren Thimmesch, her second of the game, followed by a a two-run homer by
Shelby Erickson which tied the score at 8-8 and
Marina Quimby wrapped up the game with a home run to center on her second blast of the first game. Washburn trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the second, but Quimby's first home run of the day also scored
Shelby Erickson. The Dustdevils added four in the fourth inning, but the Ichabods chipped away with two runs in the fifth on home runs by
Samantha Carson and Thimmesch in back to back at bats. The Ichabods added a solo run in the bottom of the sixth on  an RBI single by
Bre Hixon setting up the come from behind win in the seventh. Thimmesch picked up the win in relief pitching four innings improving to 4-1 on the season.
Game 2 - WU 21, TAMUI 2 (5 innings)
Washburn recorded 20 runs in a game for the first time since the 1999 season at Northwest Missouri in a 21-2 run-rule victory. The Ichabods trailed 1-0 after the Dustdevils' first at bat but scored three in the bottom of the first after an RBI by
Shelby Erickson and a 2 RBI double by Quimby. The Dustdevils cut the lead to 3-2 adding a solo run in the third inning before exploding for 10 runs in the third inning sending 14 batters to the plate. In the inning Thimmesch drove in four with a two-run homer and a 2 RBI double while
Deidra Jones homered twice in the inning with a solo home run and a three-run shot. Â In the fourth, Washburn added eight more runs on home runs by
Jordan Erickson as Washburn collected nine hits in the inning. Carson improved to 4-0 in the circle with seven strikeouts with no walks scattering five hits. Both Thimmesch and Jones drove in four while
Jordan Erickson had 3 RBI. Washburn finished with 21 hits which was three shy of the school record.
Overall Washburn batted .500 in the twinbill with 32 hits with 10 home runs and 29 RBI and a 1.031 slugging percentage. Quimby batted .750 in two games with six hits and five runs scored and 5 RBI. Thimmesch drove in six in the two games with three home runs giving her 11 in 12 games. Thimmesch had a team-high 12 home runs last season.

Samantha Carson each scored five times.
