WICHITA, Kan. – Washburn got on the board first with four runs in the top of the first but gave up a nine-run fourth inning in a 15-5 loss Tuesday at Newman.

The Ichabods dropped to 9-9 overall and will resume action with a four-game MIAA series at Pittsburg State starting Friday at 5 p.m.

Washburn scored two runs in the first inning on bases loaded walks and then Aric Valencia drove in two runs on an infield single. The Jets then scored one run in the first and three in the bottom of the first all without a hit as they tied the game. They took advantage of five walks and five wild pitches. Newman later scored nine runs in the fourth inning off four hits and four errors to go up 13-5. Two more runs in the fifth gave the Jets a big enough lead to invoke the run rule after Washburn failed to add any runs through the seventh inning.

Washburn got seven hits with Wes Jones going 2 for 3 at the plate. Crimmins and Valencia each had two RBI.

Ichabod reliever Kenny McKee took the loss as he gave up six runs, four earned, over two innings of work. The Jets also had just seven hits and had three errors while Washburn had three.
