Ichabod softball team goes 1-1 in day 2 of MWSU Invite

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. –The Washburn Ichabod softball team was 1-1 in day two of the Missouri Western Regional Crossover falling to Concordia St. Paul 8-4 before rallying for a 9-7 win over Wayne State. Washburn (14-8) will wrap up the crossover on Sunday against No. 5 Augustana on Sunday.

Game 1 – Concordia St. Paul 8, Washburn 4
Washburn was down 6-0 after three innings before scoring two in the fifth and two more in the sixth but it wasn't enough in the 8-4 loss. The Golden Bears scored two unearned runs in the third inning increasing their lead to 6-0. Washburn came back with two runs in the top of the fifth when the Ichabods scored two unearned runs and Washburn's third and fourth runs came on a two-run homer by Haylee Marsteller. Katie Schroeder and Marsteller each had two hits for Washburn.
 
Game 2 – Washburn 9, Wayne State 7
After falling behind 7-0 after 2 1/2 innings, Washburn started its comeback with three runs in the bottom of the third. Deidra Jones drove in two with a single and then Shelby Erickson picked up an RBI single as well in the frame. Washburn added a solo run in the fourth on an RBI single by Samantha Carson scoring Katie Schroeder cutting the lead to 7-4. Washburn tied the score in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by Schroeder and a two RBI single by Carson. A two RBI single by Jordan Erickson put the Ichabods up 9-7 leading to the win. Carson finished with three hits and did Shelby Erickson. Carson also picked up the win in relief improving to 6-1 on the season in the circle.
