Ichabod softball team swept by Blue Tigers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team was swept on Friday afternoon in an MIAA doubleheader falling to Lincoln 9-1 and 4-3. Washburn will wrap up the regular season on Saturday and Lindenwood with conference tournament implications on the line.

Game 1 - Lincoln 9, Washburn 1 (6 innings)
The Ichabods scored the first run of the game in their first at bat when Katie Schroeder scored on an RBI by Deidra Jones, but from that point it was all Blue Tigers as Lincoln scored the next eight runs of the game leading to a 9-1 win in six innings. The Ichabods committed a school-record seven errors leading to four unearned runs as well as the Blue Tigers' first MIAA win of the season as they improved to 1-22 in conference play. Schroeder, Marina Quimby, Shelby Erickson and Samantha Carson each had hits for the Ichabods. Quimby (1-6) took the loss in the circle allowing nine hits and five earned runs.

Game 2 - Lincoln 4, Washburn 3
As was the case in the first game, the Ichabods took an early 1-0 lead after their at bat in the second inning on an RBI single by Haylee Marsteller scoring Jordan Erickson taking advantage of one of four Blue Tiger errors in the second game. Lincoln came back and took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Washburn tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the third on a home run by Marina Quimby. Neither team would score until the bottom of the second when the Blue Tigers added a pair of runs going up 4-2. A home run by Marsteller in the top of the sixth pulled Washburn within one at 4-3. The Ichabods would get one on in the top of the seventh, but could not score her as the Blue Tigers completed the sweep winning their first two MIAA games of the season improving to 2-22 while the Ichabods dropped to 12-12 in MIAA play. Samantha Carson took the loss falling to 9-3 on the season. Marsteller had three hits and Quimby had two in the game for Washburn.
