Sweep at Lindenwood ends Washburn softball season

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball season came to an end after being swept 7-2 and 6-4 at Lindenwood. The losses dropped the Ichabods into a four-way tie for seventh in the MIAA standings but lost the tiebreakers ending the season at 20-23.

Game 1 - Lindenwood 7, Washburn 2
For the third straight game the Ichabods took an early lead to see it go away in the 7-2 loss. Washburn's Katie Schroeder led off the game with a triple and scored on a Skyler Gentry sac fly. However in the bottom of the 1st with three runs and then they added four more in the third to take a 7-1 lead. Washburn got one back in the sixth when Shelby Erickson drove in Haylee Marsteller with an RBI single but it was as close as the Ichabods would get the rest of the way. Each team recorded seven hits as seven different Washburn players collected one hit. Marina Quimby (1-7) took the loss in the circle. Lauren Thimmesch pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief allowing one earned run scattering four hits.

Game 2 - Lindenwood 6, Washburn 4
The Ichabods took a 1-0 lead when Katie Schroeder scored on a single by Shelby Erickson putting Washburn up 1-0, but the Lions scored solo runs in the first and second innings taking a 2-1 lead. The Lions added two more in the fourth stretching the lead to 4-1 and added another in the fifth. Washburn cut the lead to 5-3 after scoring two in the sixth inning after Shelby Erickson and Jordan Erickson each recorded an RBI scoring Lauren Thimmesch who doubled and Marina Quimby who reached on a fielder's choice. The Lions pushed the lead back to 6-3 scoring in the bottom of the sixth. Washburn added one in the seventh when Schroeder scored taking advantage of a Lion error. The Ichabods had a runner at third when the final out was recorded ending the game and the Washburn season. Samantha Carson struck out four in the loss falling to 9-4 in the circle. Schroeder and Shelby Erickson each had two hits in the final game at Washburn while Schroeder scored two runs.
