PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team split an MIAA doubleheader falling 16-8 in the opener before topping the Gorillas 5-1 in the nightcap. Washburn (17-16, 9-7 MIAA) returns to action at Missouri Southern on Sunday.
Game 1 - PSU 16, WU 8 (5 innings)In the opener all eight of Washburn's came in the second inning and all eight were unearned as the ichabods were limited to five hits in the game. Washburn to an 8-2 lead after two-plus innings, but the Gorillas came back with two in the bottom of the second and three in the bottom of the fourth before adding nine in the bottom of the fifth for the win. In the Ichabods' second innning, they send 11 to the plate.
Skyler Gentry has a 2-RBI single and Samanatha Carson drove in one with a single.
Marina Quimby cleared the bases with a triple putting Washburn up 8-2, but the Gorillas came back with 14 unanswered for the win. Washburn was outhit 15 to 5 and committed five errors in the game. In the fifth inning, six of the Gorillas' nine runs were unearned.
Lauren Thimmesch (7-5) took the loss.
Game 2 - Washburn 5, PSU 1The Gorillas picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the second and neither team would score until the Ichabods tallied five runs in the top of the fifth taking the 5-1 lead. After back to back to back singles by

Shelby Erickson and
Jordan Erickson, with the later driving in Marsteller.
Katie Schroeder hit an RBI double driving in one. After a walk, Quimby drove in a pair with an RBI single putting Washburn up 5-1. The Gorillas came back with two on a home run but it would be the last runs the Gorillas would score as the Ichabods earned the split with the 5-3 win. Schroeder and
Jordan Erickson each had two hits and Quimby drove in two. Quimby (1-4) also picked up the win in the circle striking out five allowing two earned runs.
