Season Statistics TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods left the bases loaded three times Sunday afternoon at Falley Field in a 5-3 loss to Emporia State. Washburn dropped the finale of the series but won the first three to take series 3-1 over the Hornets.
The Ichabods dropped to 16-14 and 16-12 in the MIAA. They will stay at home and host Rockhurst Tuesday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
The Hornets broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the third inning and never gave up the lead after that. The Ichabods left the bases loaded in the first, fifth and eighth inning and they only scored twice in those three innings. Washburn stranded 15 runners overall.
The Ichabod bullpen pitched the final five innings and kept the Ichabods in the game. The four relievers allowed just one run off five hits and a walk.
AJ Green and
Maustin Otterstatter each pitched two innings of one-hit, scoreless relief.
Riley Price was 2 for 3 and he drove in all three of Washburn's runs. He had RBI singles in the first and second innings and walked with the bases loaded in the eighth.
Taylor Herrington scored two of those runs and
Dakota Kell scored the other.
Eric Schmid pitched the first four innings for Washburn and took the loss. He allowed the first four runs off eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks. He dropped to 1-3 as Washburn fell to 1-6 in the fourth game of MIAA series this year.
