Washburn adds 49 newcomers to MIAA honor roll and seven receive Academic Excellence Award

MIAA Newcomer Academic Awards
 
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA released the 2013-14 academic awards for newcomers who finished their second semester at their institution this spring. Washburn had 49 members on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll including four who were named Scholar Athletes.
 
Washburn also had seven student-athletes finish the year with 4.00 cumulative GPAs to earn the MIAA Academic Excellence Award.
 
Members of the honor roll must have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA through two semesters at their institution. The Academic Excellence Award requires a 4.00 GPA. As well, the MIAA released recipients of the Scholar Athlete Award for also earning a spot on their sport's all-MIAA team and carrying at least a 3.50 GPA.
 
Washburn had four newcomers earn the Scholar Athlete Award. Freshman Sarah Vicory and Leanna Willer earned the award in volleyball as they also earned all-MIAA. Softball player Samantha Carson and men's tennis player Marko Keulers also won the award.
 
Washburn's 4.00 student-athletes include Vicory, Carson and Keulers as well as four others. Men's basketball players Jeremy Lickteig and Tyler Brown, softball player Marina Quimby and baseball player Zach Macke carried a 4.00 to earn the Academic Excellence Award.
 
The MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the Scholar Athlete Awards for returners were announced at the conclusion of each sports playing season based on the previous semester's cumulative GPA.
