KEARNEY, Neb. -- Justin Linn's field goal with 8:14 to go in the game was the difference as the Ichabods improved to 1-1 on the season in a 10-7 win at Nebraska-Kearney. The Ichabods will host Pittsburg State on Saturday, Sept. 20 in the MIAA game of the week.

Linn's winning touchdown was set up by the Ichabod defense when Mark Kolmer picked off Bronson Marsh at the UNK 38 and returned it to the UNK 30.

Washburn then forced a Loper punt on their next possession after a 12-play, 46-yard drive, but their field goal attempt from 37 yards out was missed after a muffed snap returning the ball back to the Ichabods. 

Washburn then drove down to the UNK 27 before turning it over on downs.

UNK was not able to move past the UNK 38 as Akhmad Abdul-Razzaq sacked Marsh at the UNK 35 to end the game on fourth down.

After neither team was able to accomplish much offensively in the first half, the Ichabods broke through on a third and 17 conversion when Mitch Buhler hit Brad Gourley on an 87-yard touchdown pass with 7:33 to play in the first half.

After a missed field goal late in the second quarter, the Lopers knotted the score at 7-7 after a 7-yard touchdown run by quarterback Bronson Marsh with 32 seconds to play.

The teams combined for 376 total yards in the first half with the Ichabods gaining 200 yards on 35 plays. Washburn had 20 rushes for 85 yards passing for 115 while the Lopers had 48 yards passing rushing for 128 of 24 attempts.

Sean McPherson led the Ichabods with 63 yards on 17 carries and Vershon Moore had 54 on 14 carries. Buhler finished 14 of 32 for 172 yards and one score and Jordan Hart finished with four catches to lead the receivers.

Defensively, Washburn was led by Calvin Kenney who had 10 tackles and Abdul-Razzaq had 10 as well adding 1.5 tackles for loss.

Washburn finished with 316 total yards on 73 plays and Nebraska-Kearney had 264 yards on 75 plays.
