DURANT, Okla. – The Ichabods dropped their first set of the season but responded with three straight strong performances in a 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-13) win Friday afternoon against Southern Nazarene in the opening match of the South Central Classic.

Seventh-ranked Washburn (5-0) will continue action in Oklahoma Friday at 7 p.m. against host school Southeastern Oklahoma.

Washburn dropped the opener by two points but bounced back and kept SNU to under .000 hitting in the second and third set. The Ichabods then hit .424 as a team in the fourth set to clinch the match. They scored the final nine points with
Sarah Vicory getting the last three points on kills.
Marissa Cox served during the streak and had an ace while
Korie Thompson added two kills.

Cox finished with a career-high four aces and she led the team with a .368 attack percentage and 19 kills. Thompson had a career high with 15 kills while
Leanna Willer and Vicory reached double figures with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.

Alyssa Carney led Washburn's defense with 26 digs and
Natalie Bates had a career-high 36 assists. Cox and
Mattie-Ann Swenson had four blocks each.

The first set had 12 ties and three lead changes. The Ichabods were up 21-20 before the Crimson Storm scored four of the next five points to get to set point. A Washburn error later gave SNU the set.

The second set was tied 10-10 before Washburn scored six straight and only gave up four points the rest of the way. A quick start in the third set gave Washburn a 12-5 lead and then Washburn was able to take control in the fourth and final set after a close start.

Washburn hit .277 as a team and kept Southern Nazarene to a .107 attack. The Storm led in blocks 8-7 but Washburn had seven aces while they had just two.
