Weekly Washburn Notes Opening Notes• The Washburn Ichabods will return to the field on Wednesday when they will face Newman in their final non-conference match of the season.
• Washburn enters the match 0-3-0 coming off a 1-0 loss to Rockhurst last time out on Sept. 9 in its home opener.
• The Ichabods were picked fifth in the MIAA preseason coaches poll.
'Bod's and Ends• The Ichabods are looking for their first win of the season.
• Washburn has scored only goal in 180 minutes of action this season and have gone 104 minutes without a goal.
• The Washburn Ichabod soccer team will have 13 freshmen on the roster this season.
• Washburn was 2-6 in matches the last two seasons in matches which were decided by one goal.

Audra Keehn scored her first collegiate goal against Northern State off an assist from Jenna Cunninghman last time out against the Wolves.
• The assist was the first one of Cunningham's career at Washburn.
• Washburn has been outshot by its opponents 39 to 33 this season including an 18 to 9 disadvantage in the first half of matches this season.
• Washburn and its opponents through three matches have both attempted 13 corner kicks.
• The Ichabods will have one of their largest senior classes in the program's history as nine Washburn student-athletes will play their final season in the blue and white.
• Four of the seniors (
Tori Fuglister,
Valerie Harms,
Jenna Cunningham and
Whitney Skinner) have been part of the program for four years.
• With eight sophomores and three redshirt freshmen the Ichabods will have 24 of their 30 players listed as underclassmen.

Noting Newman Newman is 2-1-1 this season coming off a 2-1 overtime win over Friends last time out on Sept. 12 … the Jets' other win came over Southwestern College in overtime 2-1 … three of Newman's four matches have gone into overtime this season … Jasmine Woodruff has two of the Jets' seven goals this season … Washburn is 2-0-0 all-time against the Jets … Washburn is 2-3-0 against teams from the Heartland Conference.
Last meeting with Newman (Sept. 22, 2013) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team picked up a 4-0 non-conference win over Newman on Sunday afternoon in Yager Stadium.
Danielle Curtis opened the scoring for the Ichabods in the sixth minute with a free kick from 13 yards out into the left side of the goal. It was her second goal of the season.
Whitney Skinner stretched the Ichabod lead to 2-0 on a goal from 10-yards out into the left corner of the goal as Washburn led at the break.
Washburn outshot the Jets 12-1 in the first half and had four corner kicks to Newman's one.
In the 52nd minute,
Taylor Mayhew scored her first career goal from 5-yards out on an assist from
Caysie Beetley putting Washburn up 3-0.
Curtis recorded her first two-goal match with another free kick goal in the 56th minute from 21 yards out into the near side of the goal.
Tori Fuglister recorded her fifth career shutout and her third of the season facing four shots from Newman.
Beetley and Curtis had four shots and two on goal to lead Washburn.
Bailey Wobig added three shots as Washburn outshot the Jets 23 to 4 in the match.
Noting Emporia State Emporia State is 3-1-0 this season coming off a 4-0 loss to No. 13-ranked Winona State last time out on Sept. 14 … ESU picked up wins over East Central, Harding and St. Cloud State … they have outscored their opponents 10 to 7 this season … Washburn leads the all-time series with ESU 13-6-2 but have lost the last two meetings with the Hornets shutting out the Ichabods both times.
Last meeting with Emporia State (Oct. 23, 2013) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team had its six-match unbeaten streak snapped in a 1-0 loss to Emporia State in a non-MIAA match played in Yager Stadium.
Emporia State's Jordan Foutch broke a scoreless tie with her second goal of the season off a deflection off a Hornet corner kick in the 83rd minute for the match-winner.
Washburn outshot the Hornets 13 to 11 overall, but the Hornets had a 9 to 4 advantage in corner kicks including a 5 to 2 lead in the second half.
The Ichabods, who played 21 different players in the non-conference match up were led in shots by
Kaitlyn Doescher who had four.
Tori Fuglister had two saves while facing 11 shots overall.
Noting Nebraska-Kearney
The Lopers are 0-2-1 this season and have been outscored 8 to 2 this year … they lost 1-0 last time out to Wayne State on Sept. 10 … Washburn leads the all-time series 1-0-2 … the last two matches have gone into double overtime and the last meeting on Nov. 5, 2013 in the first round of the MIAA playoffs was won by the Ichabods in a shootout 4-2 in Yager Stadium.
Last meeting with Nebraska-Kearney TOEPKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team advanced into the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament with a 4-2 penalty kick win over Nebraska-Kearney.
After the teams each recorded goals in the first seven minutes, the remaining 103-plus minutes were scoreless. Washburn scored first when
Caysie Beetley scored her fourth goal of the season from 10-yards out off an assist from
Cadence Bourne. The Lopers wasted little time scoring just under three minutes later when McKinzie Rieber scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Becka Talcott as the team entered the half tied at 1-1.
In the second half, neither scored as the Lopers had a 7 to 1 advantage in shots. After 90 minutes, the teams remained tied and it was still tied after two 10-minute overtime periods sending it to a shootout.
The Lopers went first and Becka Tacott scored on her attempt past Washburn's
Tori Fuglister. Washburn's
Lara Doescher connected on Washburn's first attempt tying the PK session 1-1. Holly Brown sent her shot wide right for the Lopers and Washburn would then go up 2-1 after Beelley's shot found the back of the net. Breezy Jahnke connected on the Lopers' next attempt tying the score back at 2-2, but it was short lived as
Rachel Hansen's attempt sailed past the Lopers' Katelin Mielke in net. Kristyn Otter's attempt to Fuglister's right was stopped by an outstretched hand and then
Devon Schmitz wrapped up the win sending her shot into the goal and the Ichabods to Olathe.
The tie (as it's recorded by the NCAA) was the first time the Ichabods had advanced in the postseason in penalty kicks since a Nov. 3, 2006 win over Missouri Southern in the NCAA Tournament.
