The 18th-ranked Ichabods (12-3, 4-3 MIAA) will take on No. 2 Pittsburg State Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at John Lance Arena. The Gorillas just fell to No. 3 Emporia State in overtime Wednesday.
The Bods won 77-65 last Saturday at Northwest Missouri State. Washburn shot 59 percent in the second half to overcome the Bearcats' 52 percent shooting in the first half.
Washburn is 52-27 in the all-time series against Pittsburg State after the two split the series last year. WU's loss in the regular season final ended a seven-game winning streak against Pitt State.
WU led at some point with under 5:00 remaining in all three losses. The Bods led until the 3:21 mark against MSSU, the 2:43 mark against LWU and until 53 seconds were remaining against UCM.
The Bods were third in the nation in the last NCAA report with a +13.7 rebounding margin, 20th holding opponents to .353 shooting and 11th holding opponents to 56.1 points a game.
The Bods have kept opponents to under 40% shooting 10 times and under 30% five times.
The Ichabods are 18th in this week's USA Today Sports national poll. Washburn is one of three MIAA teams ranked including No. 2 PSU and No. 3 Emporia State.
Taylor Ignoto has reached double figures in 13 of her 14 games. She's first on the team with 15.3 points a game and she shoots 47 percent from the field. She's 8th in the MIAA in scoring.
Casyn Buchman was sixth in the nation and first in the MIAA shooting .923 from the free throw line. She's 24 of 24 in the MIAA games.
Ron McHenry is in his 15th season as coach. He has gone 370-85 since 2000 and has won eight MIAA titles with 12 NCAA tournament appearances. He coached the team to the 2004-05 national championship.
Trip to No. 2 Pitt State up next for 18th-ranked IchabodsThe No. 13 Ichabods will continue a four-game road trip Saturday at 1:30 p.m. when they face second-ranked Pittsburg State at John Lance Arena. Washburn (12-3, 4-3 MIAA) is facing its second top-five opponent this year as Drury was No. 3 in the country during Washburn's win in November. The Gorillas (15-2, 5-1 MIAA) just suffered their first MIAA loss in an overtime meeting with No. 3 Emporia State Wednesday.

The Ichabods will have been off a week since last playing January 10 at Northwest Missouri. Washburn beat the Bearcats 77-65 behind 24 points from
Casyn Buchman. She was 4 of 4 from 3-point range and 6 of 6 from the line. She's sixth in the nation shooting .923 from the free throw line and she's made all 24 attempts in MIAA games.
Pittsburg State gave up the final four points in regulation Wednesday at home against Emporia State in a 65-61 loss. The Lady Hornets then hit three free throws in the final 15 seconds of overtime for the win. Lizzy Jeronimus led the Gorillas with 19 points and she's third in the MIAA averaging 20.0 points a game.

Ichabods near the top in several national and MIAA defensive categoriesThe Ichabods were near the top in several MIAA and NCAA defensive categories in this week's statistics reports. They were third in the nation and second in the MIAA with a +13.7 rebounding margin and 20th overall and third in the conference holding opponents to .353 shooting from the field. The 56.1 points a game they were allowing was 11th overall and fourth in the MIAA.
Honor Duvall was 13th in the country and second in the conference shooting .582 from the field.
Casyn Buchman led the MIAA and was sixth in the country shooting .923 from the free throw line.
Strong defense key to Bod victoriesJust five opponents have shot above 40 percent against the Ichabods this year including all three teams that beat Washburn this year.
The Bods are 10-0 when keeping their opponents to under 40 percent shooting and their 2-3 when their opponent shoots above 40 percent.
Washburn is holding opponents to .330 shooting in games won and .453 shooting in the three losses. The Bods have kept five of their opponents to under 30 percent shooting. Benedictine shot a season-low .170 against Washburn while Northwest Missouri has the season high of 50 percent shooting in a Washburn win January 10.

Washburn was picked third in the MIAA preseason coaches poll. The Bods earned three first-place votes. Emporia State was picked first and Pittsburg State was second.
Washburn's 93-35 win Nov. 16 against PR-Rio Piedras was the school's second largest against an NCAA school. The 62 rebounds was the largest against an NCAA school.
WU outscored Benedictine 48-4 in the paint on Nov. 18.
The Ichabods trailed nearly the entire second half Nov. 22 against Drury but
Casyn Buchman's free throw in the final seconds sent the game to overtime. She then scored 10 points in the overtime to help WU knock off then-No. 3 Drury, 87-79. She had a career-high 28 points.
Washburn was unranked in the USA Today Sports preseason poll but earned a No. 18 ranking in the first regular season poll of the year.
Taylor Ignoto averaged 20.5 points and shot 72 percent Nov. 25-29 to earn MIAA player of the week.
The seven juniors on the 2013-14 team had 81 percent of Washburn's scoring and 79 percent of the individual rebounding. Six of those seven juniors are back this year as seniors. A junior led the team in scoring every game last year and in rebounding in all but two games.
Up next for WashburnWashburn will travel to Central Oklahoma Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. MIAA game. The Bods are 7-2 all-time against the Bronchos and 2-0 in Edmond. Washburn won by four points there last year.
