TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep winning its 12th and 13th games in a row after topping Pittsburg State 2-1 and 8-4 in game two Saturday at Falley Field. The Ichabods will look for the four-game sweep on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.

Parker Gibson in the bottom of the seventh scoring
Cole Gardner who pinch ran for
Corey Gragg, who led off the inning with a double pushed the Ichabods to a 2-1 win over the Gorillas. The win the the 12th in a row for the Ichabods and their longest winning streak since the 1994 season when they won 13 in a row.
Starting pitcher
Mike Hefferan picked up the complete game win scattering five hits and scoreless until the Gorillas pushed across a run in the seventh inning tying the score at 1-1. Hefferan struck out three and did not walk any Pitt State batters.
Washburn scored its first run of the day breaking a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Connor Crimmins drove in
Kyle Carnahan who reached via a single.
Gibson had two hits in the game to lead Washburn in the opener.
Game 2 - Washburn 8, Pittsburg State 4The Gorillas took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Ichabods picked up a solo run in the bottom of the frame after Gibson scored on a wild pitch after leading off the game with a single. The Ichabods scored three in the bottom of the second when Gibson drove in
Tanner Johnson and
Payton Soicher with a 2-RBI triple and then Gibson scored when
Riley Krane grounded out.
Washburn scored two in the third inning on a 2-run homer by
Tanner Triggs scoring
Connor Crimmins and then added another two on a 2-run shot by Carnahan scoring Krane wrapping up the offense for the Ichabods.
Zach Linquist improved to 2-0 on the mound striking out six allowing four earned runs.
