JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod baseball team for the third-straight game with No. 19 Missouri Southern fell behind early and could not recover in an 8-1 loss to the Lions. The Ichabods will look to avoid the sweep on Saturday starting at noon.
After being outscored 16-0 in the first two innings of the first two games of the series, the Lions continued their early game success scoring all eight of their runs in the first two innings of Friday's game rolling to the 8-1 win. The Lions (25-6, 16-3 MIAA) were held without a hit from the third inning on as
Hank Wellborn pitched five innings and
Ryne Dowling pitched the eighth inning holding Missouri Southern scoreless.
Washburn's run came in the fifth inning when
Kyle Carnahan led off the inning with his fourth home run of the season to right putting the Ichabods (21-11, 14-9 MIAA) on the board. Washburn finished with six hits with
Tanner Triggs recording two.
Riley Krane,
Connor Crimmins,
Corey Gragg and Carnahan all had one hit for Washburn.
Tanner Kilmer took the loss falling to 3-3 on the season while the Lions' Cody Hutchinson improved to 6-0 on the season striking out six.
