Kaitlin Minnich with a barrage of shots none of which were able to hit the back of the net. Seconds into the 81
st minute
Ellie Karloff headed to the corner to attempt the Ichabods first corner kick of the period. The ball sailed to the middle of the box and was popped up and met by
Kate Combs who knocked it in for her first goal of the season. Washburn would continue its strong defensive showing until time ran out to improve to 8-4-1 on the season.
Minnich played every minute in goal for Washburn picking up seven saves.
"I thought we played pretty well most of the game", said head coach
Chris Jones. "It was a pretty good game and we did our jobs well. We let down late and allowed them to really gain momentum, so we need to finish the game strong. Kate (Combs) scoring was huge for her and us. Sometimes you have to grind out a win against good opposition. The girls played hard and played our game. We have yet to play our best soccer".
Washburn will resume play on Sunday when it matches up with No. 2 Central Missouri at 2 p.m. at Yager Stadium.
