Box Score TOPEKA, Kan. – A pair of goals from
Morgan El-Attrache capped off a 2-0 weekend for Washburn Soccer as it knocked off SBU in a 2-1 decision.
After getting off to a slow start and trailing the Bearcats 1-0 off a goal from SBU's Averi Walker,El-Attrache would head to the right side of the field for a 18-yard free kick inside the 35
th minute and find the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Washburn would play stout defense and hold the Bearcats scoreless for the remainder of the period to head into the break tied 1-1.
Both teams would turn up the intensity in the second period combining for five total shots. None would find the back of the net resulting in Washburn heading into its second overtime match of the season.
Washburn stormed out of the gate at the start of overtime. El-Attrache ran down the field to score her second goal of the night from 25-yards out a mere 33 seconds in and earning Washburn's second win of the weekend.
"The game itself wasn't our best", said head coach
Chris Jones. " We had to work for everything we got, but we did the right things at the right moments and came away with a win. As a team we need to take this game and learn from it and get better this week. Credit to the girls for fighting through to the end".
El-Attache's second goal marks Washburn's fastest overtime goal surpassing the previous record set by Keeley Lambeth in 2009. El-Attrache now has three goals on the season and two career match-winning goals one of which is a golden goal.
Riley Boomer played every minute in goal for the Ichabods recording three saves.
Washburn improves to 7-4-1 on the season and 3-2-0 in conference while SBU falls to 0-11-0 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.
Up next, Washburn will remain at Yager Stadium for a pair of matches next weekend where it will host Lindenwood Oct. 14 and Central Missouri Oct. 16.
