Washburn Ichabods return to action with trip up north...
• The Washburn Ichabod softball team fresh off a 2-3 trip to West Palm Beach, Fla., will travel north to compete in the Winona State Warrior Dome Tournament with four games against three opponents starting Feb. 19.
• All games will take place in Rochester, Minn.
• The Ichabods will start and finish the event with Northern State and take on host squad Winona State on Feb. 19 and Upper Iowa the following day.
Warm ups . . .
• After the first five games of the season, the Ichabods are led by a pair of freshmen who are both hitting above .400.
• Freshman
Ashley Ruder leads the Ichabods with a .600 batting average after going 9 for 15 with two runs scored with a double and 3 RBI.
• Freshman
Erin Keeney was 7 for 15 with a double and 2 RBI with a .467 batting average.
• Both Ruder and Keeney lead the Ichabods with three multi-hit games and Ruder is one of two Ichabods to have a multi-RBI game joining
Cassidy Merriman.
• Ruder will also be carrying a team-best five game hitting streak to Minnesota.

Megan Stegman his hitting .385 with five hits and two runs scored.
• Senior
Marina Quimby is third on the team with six hits in 18 at bats and a double with three runs scored.
• Sophomore
Cassidy Merriman leads the team with 4 RBI.
• Senior
Taylor Zimmerman has the only home run for the Ichabods so far this spring.
• Junior pitcher
Samantha Carson was 1-1 with a 3.20 earned run average in 15 1/3 innings pitched allowing seven earned runs.
• Freshman pitcher
Ashley Wills was 1-2 with two complete games in 18 1/3 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts.
• Both Ruder and Zimmerman have reached base in all five games.
Scouting the field . . .
Northern State• Northern State has not played any games yet this fall.
• They were 32-22 last season reaching the NSIC Tournament.
• The Ichabods lead the all-time series 3-1.
• Washburn won the last meeting on March 20, 2015 in a 10-1.
Upper Iowa• The Peacocks are 3-1 this season.
• They finished the 2015 season
• The Ichabods lead the series 5-1 and have won the last three including a doubleheader sweep over Upper Iowa on March 9, 2015 in Topeka in a 4-0 and a 9-1 win.
Winona State• The Ichabods are 1-1 all-time against Winona State.
• The Warriors were ranked No. 10 in the NFCA Preseason Poll.
• WSU has not played any games this season.
• In 2015 the Warriors were 46-14 going 24-5 in the NSIC reaching the NCAA Regionals.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team scored six runs in the its final two at bats for a come-from-behind 9-8 win over Lynn in the final day of the Sailfish Showdown.
After tying the score in the bottom of the first after Lynn's first at bat,
Cassidy Merriman drove in
Marina Quimby on a sac fly. Lynn took the lead at 2-1 in the top of the third before Washburn regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth at 3-2 on a solo home run by
Taylor Zimmerman leading off the inning and then
Haylee Marsteller would score in the inning with the second run of the frame.
Lynn rallied with six runs in the top of the fifth inning taking an 8-3 lead before Washburn responded with four runs in the sixth inning after singles by Marsteller,
Megan Stegman, Quimby,
Ashley Ruder and Merriman. After a scoreless top of the seventh, Marsteller led off the inning with a walk and then moved to second on a base hit by
Lacie Myers. After a single to center by pinch hitter
Sierra Kemp which scored pinch runner
Berkley White, Stegman recorded a single and then Quimby picked up the walk off single scoring White with the winning run.
Samantha Carson picked up the win in relief of
Ashley Wills, who struck out four in 4 2/3 innings. Carson (1-1) struck out two.
• was named the Washburn Ichabod head softball coach on Aug. 3, 2011 after spending four seasons at Metro State in Denver, Colo., with the final season coming as the head coach.
• is 81-107 in her fifth season on the bench at Washburn and overall Becerra has recorded a 115-125 mark in her sixth year as a head coach.
• in her lone season as the head coach at Metro State, Becerra led the Roadrunners the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season championship while advancing to the NCAA regional tournament for the third-straight season finishing with a 34-18 record.

• The Ichabods are 1096-814-1 in their 47th year of softball.
• The Ichabods have made three NCAA Tournament appearances (1999, 2006, 2008).

Up next . . .
• The Ichabods will open MIAA play on March 4 when they will face Lincoln in Jefferson City before taking on Lindenwood on the road in St. Charles, Mo. the following day. After a two more MIAA games with Emporia State on March 11, the Ichabods will host the Hornets in non-conference action on March 12 in Topeka in its home openers before returning to MIAA play against Northeastern State at the Washburn Softball Complex.
