SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season picking up a 7-2 win over McKendree University on Saturday at the Cooper Tennis Center in Springfield, Mo. Washburn will return to the court on Feb. 20 with the first of two NCAA Division I foes when they will take on Missouri-Kansas City.

Washburn jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles action when No. 22-ranked Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and Blake Hunter topped Ben Muller and Aleix Alvarez 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and Matt Barlow and Zach Hampton defeated Abel Moreno and Ethan McCafferty 8-4.

In singles play, Washburn won five of the six matches as Valarezo Plaza won 6-2, 7-4 over Muller at No. 1 singles. Barlow dispatched Alvarez 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles while Hunter topped Maico Egbers 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

David Clausen topped Cafferty 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and Dario Munoz-Poletti topped Alberto Montalban 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 6 singles.
