TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team allowed five unearned runs leading to a doubleheader sweep by Northeastern State as the Ichabods fell 6-1 and 3-2. The Ichabods return to action on Friday at the Apple Market Crossover playing six games in St. Joseph over three days.
Game 1-Northeastern State 6, Washburn 1Washburn scored its only run of the game in the first inning when
Cassidy Merriman led off the frame with a double and then scored on a double steal as
Megan Stegman swiped second after picking up a single in the inning.
The RiverHawks opened the game up with five runs in the third inning including two unearned runs and added another unearned run in the fifth inning rolling to the 6-1 win.
Merriman,
Erin Keeney and
Lacie Myers each had two hits for Washburn.
Samantha Carson allowed three earned runs striking out four in the loss.
Game 2-Northeastern State 3, Washburn 2After the RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a solo home run, Washburn took the lead on a two-run home run by

NSU scored the winning runs in the sixth taking advantage of an Ichabod error with a two-run homer. The Ichabods left the bases loaded in the sixth and had two on in the seventh, but could not get any runs across in the one-run loss as Washburn left 10 runners on in the second game.
Seven different players had one hit for the Ichabods and Marsteller had both RBI for Washburn.
Ashley Wills struck out five with no walks allowing one earned run in the loss for Washburn.
Washburn falls to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA while Northeastern State moves to 17-12 overall and 5-5 in MIAA play.
