ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods won their second and third straight games in a row after sweeping day two of the Apple Market Regional Crossover beating Northern State 2-0 before rolling to an 11-3 win over Concordia-St. Paul. Washburn will wrap up the crossover with Mary at 11 a.m. and Wayne State at 3 p.m.
Game 1 Â - Washburn 2, Northern State 0Washburn opened the day with a three-hit shutout by Samanatha Carson and a home run by
Haylee Marsteller as the Ichabods picked up their second win in three tries against Northern State in a 2-0 win.
The Ichabods got the scoring going in the second inning when
Taylor Zimmerman led off the frame with a single and then scored on an RBI single by
Lacie Myers.Â
Neither team scored until the fifth inning when Marsteller connected on a home run to right field putting Washburn up 2-0 and that would be all the offense Carson (6-5) would need as she picked up the win allowing only three hits striking out two.
Zimmerman had two of the four hits for the Ichabods.
Game 2 - Washburn 11, Concordia-St. Paul 3The Ichabods won their third-straight game with a come-from-behind 11-3 win over the Golden Bears in the nightcap using a season-high 18 hits in the win.
Washburn (11-12) fell behind 3-0 after the first inning, but would then score 11-straight runs leading to the win over CSP (6-13).
In the second,
Marina Quimby scored on a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a double. In the second, a leadoff single by
Taylor Zimmerman and an RBI single by
Lacie Myers cut the Concordia lead to 3-2.
Washburn took the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI double by
Sierra Kemp scoring
Erin Keeney who reached on a single. Zimmerman scored on an error in the inning putting Washburn up 4-3.
In the fifth,
Cassidy Merriman reached base for the 21st straight game with a two-run homer to center scoring
Haylee Marsteller.
In the seventh, Washburn put the game out of reach scoring five more runs going up 11-3.
Ashley Ruder led of the inning with a single and Merriman reached on a fielder's choice. Stegman and
Lexie Myers who entered as a pinch-runner for Ruder scored on a 2-RBI double by
Megan Stegman. With one out, Zimmerman doubled scoring Stegman.
Sierra Kemp's single sent Zimmerman to the plate and then Quimby hit her second double of the game scoring Kemp wrapping up the scoring.
After allowing three earned runs in the first inning,
Ashley Wills struck out seven the remainder of the way only allowing five more hits the rest of the game improving to 5-6 on the season.
