Ichabod softball team swept by Tigers

HAYS, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team came up on the wrong end of a doubleheader sweep at the Fort Hays State Tigers took both games of a twinbill winning 6-5 and 3-0. Washburn is back in action on Wednesday hosting Central Oklahoma.

Game 1 - FHSU 6, WU 5
The Ichabods led 5-0 going into the bottom of the third inning after scoring an unearned run on an RBI double by Taylor Zimmerman scoring Megan Stegman. In the second inning, Washburn scored again to go up 2-0 when Stegman's RBI single scored Lexie Myers who drew a two-out walk.
Washburn went up 5-0 after taking advantage of a Tiger error when Marina Quimby, Lacie Myers and Haylee Marsteller all scored in the third.
The Tigers got on the board with two unearned runs in the third and added another unearned run in the fourth cutting the Ichabod lead to 5-3.
The Tigers trimmed the lead to one in the fifth inning and then back-to-back-to-back walks by the Ichabod pitcher including the last two with the bases loaded led to the 6-5 win for the Tigers.
Washburn outhit the Tigers 10 to 9 in the game as Stegman, Sierra Kemp and Lacie Myers each had two hits. Samantha Carson pitched five innings allowing one earned run before giving way to Quimby who took the loss.

Game 2 - FHSU 3, WU 0
Like in the first game, the Tigers made the Ichabods pay for an error scoring two unearned runs in the third inning leading to a 3-0 win to sweep the doubleheader.
Washburn was held to four hits in the game as Cassidy Merriman recorded two to pace Washburn.
Ashley Wills allowed one earned run in the game striking out one scattering eight hits.

Washburn falls to 17-21 overall and 7-13 in the MIAA while the Tigers improved to 17-26 and 11-13 in MIAA play.
