The Washburn women's soccer team continued its up and down season last week, losing two matches to Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State.
The Ichabods got off to a 1-0 lead late in the first half Friday against the Broncos of UCO, when
Rebecca Weimer scored her first goal of the year for Washburn, and the Ichabods held onto that lead into halftime.
The second half started with a trio of impressive saves by goalkeeper
Kaitlin Minnich, but the Bronchos were eventually able to break through and score, first off of a Asha Haile goal from an assist by Morgan Cherry.
The Bronchos were able to score two unanswered goals in the second half, with the second coming from Falyn Dodd. The Ichabods fell behind 2-1 in the 67th minute, having recorded just one shot on goal for second half.
Kelsi Smith came through with the equalizer for the Ichabods in the 80th minute, her second goal of the season. The Ichabods then took the Bronchos into overtime, which lasted just 5:16 until Mikayla Lowery came through with a goal assisted by Camrie Hurst to end the match.
After allowing just two shots in the first half, the Ichabods allowed 13 in the second half to the Bronchos. Minnich recorded a season-high 11 saves, but was overwhelmed by the Bronchos 14 shots on goal.
The Ichabods' offense was stifled by the RiverHawks on Sunday, being shut out for the first time this season. They finished tied for a season low in shots, and had their second fewest shots on goal in any game this year.
The RiverHawks broke the scoreless tie in the 33rd minute, when Jessie Lynch received a corner kick from Sarah Rector and slipped the ball past goalkeeper
Kaitlin Minnich.
The Ichabods held an advantage on corner kicks in the first half, 4-2, but were unable to capitalize on any of them. They were held to just four shots in the half, two on goal.
The offense of Washburn was held up even more in the second half, mustering just two shots. The last, by
Tera Lynch, was saved by NSU goalkeeper Meg Smith in the 88th minute. The Ichabods fell to 5-4-1.
The Ichabods will look to get back on the winning track Friday, taking on the Lions of Missouri Southern State University, then Southwest Baptist University on Sunday.
