Central Oklahoma Notes
• The Bronchos are 5-4 this season and have won their last three game with wins over No. 23-ranked Central Missouri (48-30) last time out adding in wins at Missouri Southern (63-33) and at home against Nebraska-Kearney (27-13). The other two wins are over Lindenwood (35-14) to start the season and Emporia State in a 53-52 shootout.
• In UCO's four losses, they have lost by a combined total of 21 points, including just 17-10 on the road at Northwest Missouri.
• Central Oklahoma is 4-1 in games played in Edmond and 1-3 in road contests.
• Averaging 36.1 points per game, the Bronchos have one of the top offenses in the MIAA, tied for third. On the defensive side though, they allow 29.1 points which is 10th in the league.
• Averaging 301.4 passing yards per game, UCO ranks second in the MIAA and 12th in Division II.
• Chas Stallard is the Broncho quarterback. He has 2,683 passing yards this season, which is fourth in the nation. He has completed 193 passes for 23 touchdowns. He's completing 64.3 percent of his passes which is second in the MIAA and his 160.8 efficiency rating tops the conference. He's also first with his 19 touchdowns. Overall he is fourth in the nation and second in the MIAA in total offense averaging 341.1 yards per game trailing Central Missouri's Brook Bolles who has 356.3 yards per game.
• Most of Stallard's passes are in the direction of J.T. Luper, the NCAA leader in receiving yards with 1,322. He's caught 83 passes on the season, an average of more than nine per game. He has 47 more receptions than teammate Josh Crockett, who has 36 for 524 yards and five touchdowns. Lupers 10 receiving touchdowns are ninth in D2 and lead the MIAA.
• Chas Stallard also leads the team with 387 rushing yards for three touchdowns followed by Jake Standlee with 345 rushing yards.
• Defensively, Colton Lindsey leads the team with 75 tackles. Alex Figueroa has 63 tackles with 8.5 tackles for loss for 25 yards and three sacks. The Bronchos nine sacks are second-fewest in the MIAA.
• Kicker Alex Quevedo is 7-for-9 on field goal attempts this season with a long of 46. He's hit all three of his attempts between 40-49 yards. Quevedo has 19 touchbacks in 57 kickoffs.
Last time out for Washburn …
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabods scored 24 points in the first 15:24 of the game and withstood a late Griffon charge in a 34-24 win over Missouri Western on Saturday in Spratt Stadium.
The Ichabods (6-3, 6-3 MIAA) won the opening toss and deferred to the second half and the Griffons fumbled the kickoff and Washburn took over at the Western 28 and five plays later,
Blake Peterson connected with
Mickeel Stewart on an 8-yard touchdown pass staking Washburn to a 7-0 lead.
After a three-and-out on the Griffons' next drive, Washburn needed six plays and marched 66 yards to go up 14-0 when Peterson ran for a 21-yard touchdown scamper with 9:44 to go in the first quarter.
The Griffons (4-5, 4-5 MIAA) were forced to punt again after a 6-yard drive and the Ichabods pushed their lead to 17-0 after a 24-yard field by Perry Schmiedler. Washburn outgained the Griffons 190 to 36 in the first quarter.
Western's next drive went only five yards and the Ichabods took over at their own 35 yard line, but was forced to punt, but Schmiedeler rushed 11 yards for the first down keeping the drive alive. With the teams switching ends at the end of the quarter,
Carey Woods took a double reverse run 16 yards for the score as Washburn increased its lead to 24-0. The Girffons would get on the board with a 13-play, 62-yard drive taking 6:46 off the clock as Tyler Basch hit a 32-yard field goal with 2:24 remaining in the opening half.
Schmiedeler connected on a 27-yard field goal with three seconds to go before the break as Washburn went up 27-3.
To start the second half, Washburn went 53 yards on eight plays capped by a Stewart 2-yard run as Washburn went up 34-3 with 11:31 to go in the third quarter.
The Griffons would then score the next 21 points with their final score coming with 9:21 to go in the game as Washburn snapped a two-game losing streak and won its third straight over the Griffons on a homecoming game.
Stewart rushed for 89 yards leading the Ichabods and one score while
Zach Willis had 41, Peterson had 32 and Schmiedeler had 26 yards on two carries. Peterson was 14 of 33 passing for 181 yards and one score. Stewart led the Ichabods with five catches for 53 yards and one score finishing the game with 142 all-purpose yards.
Derrick McGreevy led the Ichabod defense with nine tackles and
D.J. Olmstead had eight.
Washburn ran 92 plays in the game, which was just shy of a school record of 96 racking up 404 yards while the Griffons finished with 414 on 59 plays. Washburn had the ball 35:58 of the game compared to 24:02 for the Griffons.
Last Ichabod meeting with Central Oklahoma …
Nov. 5, 2016 -- EDMOND, Okla. -- The Washburn Ichabods survived a late rally on Central Oklahoma's homecoming holding on for a 31-28 win over the Bronchos as UCO missed a 33-yard field goal with 14 seconds to play.
Central Oklahoma scored the final 14 points of the game rallying from a 31-14 deficit giving them the opportunity to tie or take the win on its final drive.
The Ichabods got on the board with 1:32 left in the first quarter when
Derek McGinnis hit
Bryce Chavis on a 14-yard strike and then after forcing a Central Oklahoma punt, McGinnis completed an 18-yard touchdown pass stretching the Ichabod lead to 14-0 with 14:13 to play in the game.
UCO cut the lead in half at 14-7 with 46 seconds to play in the first half when Chris Stallard hit Justin Crockett for an 8-yard touchdown pass.
The Ichabods would then take possession and go seven plays in 40 seconds as
Perry Schmiedeler hit a 46-yard field goal as the first half horn expired staking the Ichabdos to a 17-7 lead.
To start the second half, McGinnis tossed his third touchdown pass of the day on an 18-yard touchdown strike to
James Brania-Hopp for his first career collegiate touchdown with 10:02 to play in the third quarter.
UCO answered with a touchdown of its own cutting the lead to 10 at 24-14 with 7:46 to play in the third quarter.
Washburn answered when
Mickeel Stewart scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 13 seconds to play in the third quarter pushing the Ichabod lead to 31-14.
UCO would rally off 14-straight points taking advantage of a roughing the passer call on the first one as the Bronchos trailed 31-28 with 7:28 to go in the game.
The Bronchos would then drive all the way to the Ichabod 16 with under a minute to play, but the 33-yard field goal to tie the game was wide right as the Ichabods improved to 7-3 on the season.
McGinnis passed for 298 yards completing 19 of 26 attempts with three touchdowns. Chavis had a career-high 10 receptions for 176 yards and one score and Anthony Daniels, Jr., had five catches for 80 yards and a score.
On the ground, Stewart had 16 carries for 51 yards and a score.
Defensively for the Ichabods, Cody Heiman led the Ichabods with 11 tackles adding a tackle for loss for four yards.
Peter Pfannenstiel and
Austin Tillman had eight tackles.
Schmiedeler had five punts for 255 yards averaging 51 yards per punt with three more than 50 yards.
Overall the Ichabods finished with 421 yards on 61 plays while the Bronchos finished with 418 yards on 77 plays. The Ichabods had 335 passing yards overall with 86 rushing yards and 20 first downs while UCO had 298 yards passing yards and 120 rushing yards.
