WBB eyes fourth consecutive MIAA win on Monday against Lincoln

TOPEKA, Kan. --- Washburn looks to extend its win streak to four games on Monday against Lincoln prior to heading into the holiday break. The Ichabods are coming off an 81-69 win at Lindenwood on Saturday they improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in MIAA action. 

SCOUTING THE BLUE TIGERS
• Lincoln is 3-7 overall and 0-3 in MIAA this season and is currently on a three-game slide including a 72-50 loss on Saturday to Emporia State.
• The Blue Tigers are 2-2 when playing at Jason Gymnasium this season.
• Citlali Lopez has a team-best 11.5 points/game including a season-high 17 points against Ark.-Monticello. Lopez is shooting .379 from the field, .404 from distance and .640 from the line. Lopez is second on the team in steals (11).
• Bre Coleman paces Lincoln with 7.2 rebounds/game and averages 2.7 offensive boards a game. Coleman has double-digit rebounds in three of her last five games but was limited to just one board against Emporia State. Coleman also has a team-high 12 blocks.
• Collectively, Lincoln is last in the conference in FG percentage (.353) and shooting from distance (.286) while ranking 10th in FG defense (.404) and fifth-overall in three-pt FG defense (.277).
• The Blue Tigers are led by second-year coach Ayana Williams who began the season with a 5-21 record.
• Lincoln finished last season 5-21 overall with a 4-15 mark in MIAA play.

THEY GOT HISTORY
Monday's contest will be the 27th all-time meeting against Lincoln. The Ichabods are 26-0 against the Blue Tigers all-time including an 11-0 mark at Jason Gymnasium. Washburn's last trip to Lincoln was Dec. 8, 2014.  The series began on Dec. 12, 1980. 

FINDING A WAY
The Ichabods are 4-0 this season in games decided by three points or less and have overcome varying deficits with five minutes left in regulation on three occasions. Washburn has seen overtime action once this season, a 78-67 win against UMary (11/11/17).

FIVE GOOD MINUTES
In the last five minutes of games this season, Washburn has outscored opponents 104-66, while averaging 11.6 points during that stretch. The Ichabods are shooting .420 from the floor, .400 from long range and have converted 34-of-52 (.654) from the line. Opponents meanwhile are .354 from the field, .152 from three-point land and 13-of-28 (.464) from the charity stripe. 

STARTING FIVE
The Ichabods have three different starting lineups this season. As a group, Washburn starters average 49.6 points/game while outscoring opponents, 496-428. The starting five is shooting .437 from the floor, .362 from behind the arc and .726 (92-125) from the line. 

AWAY FROM LEE ARENA
The Ichabods are 3-1 this season playing at either a neutral or road court. The lone loss came on the road when the team faced Newman on Nov. 28. In its two true road tilts this season, Washburn is shooting .351 from the field, .429 from three-point land and has made 14-of-22 attempts from the line (.636). The Ichabods have also outscored their home opponents 39-23 in the second quarter and 34-29 in the fourth, while conceding the opening period of each half (26-29 in Q1, 27-40 in Q3).

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Under head coach Ron McHenry, Washburn is 213-44 all-time when playing at Lee Arena dating back to the 2000-01 campaign. Since opening prior to the 1984-85 season, Washburn has complied an impressive 407-89 all-time record at Lee Arena.

ON THIS DATE
Under head coach Ron McHenry, the Ichabods are 4-1 when playing on Dec. 18. The program's last victory on this date came during the 2014-15 season when Washburn downed Lincoln, 64-46 on its home court. 

WEEKLY WRAP-UP
Washburn stretched its conference opening win streak to three games on Saturday as it went on the road and defeated Lindenwood, 81-69 at Hyland Arena. Freshman Mckenzie Loe came of the bench to net a game-high 19 points. Reagan Phelan finished with 18 while Hunter Bentley tallied 12 for her first double-figure effort as an Ichabod. Washburn trailed after the first quarter but used a 17-1 run during the second to grab control the afternoon affair. The Ichabods never relinquished their lead as they shot 50 percent from the floor, 53.8 percent from three-point distance and converted 20-of-24 attempts from the line for 83.3 percent.

WASHBURN TRADITION
The 2017-18 campaign marks the 49th season of Washburn women's basketball. The program is 881-392-1 all-time, has seen 23 seasons with at least 20 wins, and 17 appearances NCAA Division II Tournament appearances with the 2004-05 team crowned as national champions. From Jan. 26, 2005 to Mar. 11, 2006, Washburn won 51 consecutive games. The streak is the longest in NCAA Division II and sixth all-time in NCAA history.

UP NEXT
The Ichabods will return to their homes to celebrate the holiday season with families before closing out the calendar with non-conference action against Benedictine on Saturday, Dec. 30 at Lee Arena. Tip-off is slated for 4 pm.
