MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod track and field teams had six compete at the Kansas State Carol Robinson/Attila Zsivoczky Winter Pentathlon on Friday highlighted by
Jacob Newlin winning the last two events propelling himself to a third-place overall finish. The rest of the Ichabod track and field team will be in action on Saturday at the Pitt State Crimson and Gold Invitational.
MaKayla Kueser finished in seventh overall. Kueser finished seventh in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.96 and then placed fifth in the high jump clearing 1.57m (5-01.75). In the shot put, Kueser finished in ninth with a personal-best of 7.82m (25-08.00). Kueser placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.34m (17-06.25). In the 800m, Kueser finished eighth in a time of 2:55.27 wrapping up her day.
The men's pentathlon was won by Mace Metcalf from Oklahoma State with 3,445 points and Derek Bixenman finished second with 3,410 points. Newlin was third with 3,339 points. Wiens was sixth with 3,183 points followed by Stock in seventh with 3,111 points.
Michael Pearl was ninth with 3,086 points and
John Tarwater was 10
th with 2,720 points.
In the first event of the day, Pearl recorded a third place finish in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.86 while Wiens tied for fifth at 8.96. Stock was sixth in 8.97 and Newlin was 11
th with a time of 9.34 and Tarwater was 12
th in a time of 9.77.
In the long jump, Wiens finished third with a mark of 6.39m (20-11.75) while Stock was fourth (6.38m/20-11.25) and Pearl was fifth (6.36m/20-10.50). Newlin was ninth (6.14m/20-01.75) and Tarwater was 12
th (5.37m/17-07.50).
Newlin led the Ichabods in the shot put with a mark of 10.71m/35-01.75 and Pearl was seventh (10.04m/32-11.25) followed by Wiens (9.90m/32-05.75) in eighth. Tarwater was ninth (9.85m/32-03.75) and Stock was 12
th (9.27m/30-05.00).
Newlin won the high jump clearing a height of 2.00m/6-06.75 earning 803 points. Tying for fifth were Stock and Pearl (1.82m/5-11.50) and Wiens finished seventh at 1.79m/5-10.50. Tarwater finished ninth at 1.76m/5-09.25.
In the final event of the day, Newlin picked up his second victory in the 1000m run in a time of 2:54.63. Wiens was fourth at 3:00.83 followed by Tarwater (3:05.61) in seventh, Stock in ninth (3:06.34) and Pearl in 10
th (3:16.60).
