EMPORIA, Kan. / ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track and field teams split competition this Friday, turning in strong performances at the Emporia State Spring Open while distance runners posted a series of personal and school-record efforts at the WashU Distance Carnival in their first outdoor action of the season.

Washburn's distance runners found success against deep national fields at the WashU Distance Carnival.
On the men's side, all six Ichabods competing in the 5,000 meters recorded personal-best times, led by
Tommy Roehl, who ran 14:40.98.
Ludovico Vaccari,
Adrian Lehman,
Lukas Mehl, and
Taylor Karcz also posted PRs as the team showed depth and improvement across the event.
The women delivered one of the day's highlights when
Lexie Fontaine set a school record in the 1,500 meters, finishing fifth overall with a time of 4:26.65, shattering the previous mark of 4:33.57. In the 5,000 meters,
Kyla Lochtefeld paced the Ichabods with a personal-best 16:57.75, while six additional Ichabod runners notched PRs in a strong showing against a large field.

The Ichabods enjoyed success across the sprints, jumps, throws, and relays, highlighted by multiple personal records, and strong depth across events.
On the men's side,
Bryce Cochran continued his strong season in the 400 meters, placing fifth with a personal-best time of 48.90. The sprints also saw progress from
Peyton Holmes and
John Mark Bishop, both of whom recorded personal bests in the 100 meters at 10.62 and 10.65, respectively. Holmes added a personal record in the long jump at 6.39 meters (20-11.75).
In the field events,
Slade Smith delivered a standout performance by finishing second in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 2.01 meters (6-7.00). Smith was joined by
Matthew Heckman, who also cleared 2.01 meters to place fourth.
Ransford Nti placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.36 meters (47-1.50).
The 4x100-meter relay of
Emeka Ogbonna, Cochran,
Eddie Craig, and Holmes placed sixth at 42.32.
The women's team also turned in several impressive performances.
McKenzie Hayse led the way with a third-place finish in the 200 meters (24.63) and added a personal-best mark of 5.82 meters (19-1.25) to take third in the long jump.
Ta'Mijha Nichols placed fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.74, while
Isabella Garcia finished fifth in the 400 meters at 59.19.
In the hurdles,
Naiuri Krein placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 1:05.94, while
Ashley Heavner added a fifth-place showing. The women's 4x100-meter relay of
Kamdyn Wedel,
Kereser Augustin,
Maya Pattison, and
Layla Lerus finished third with a time of 47.31.
In the throws,
Adriel Holloway posted multiple top-12 finishes, including fifth in the hammer throw at 52.51 meters (172-3) and seventh in the shot put at 13.02 meters (42-8.75).
