Baseball falls to Missouri Western

TOPEKA, Kan. --- The Washburn baseball team fell in game two of its three game series, 2-1, to Missouri Western on Sunday, February 19 at Falley Field.

WU (8-5, 0-2 MIAA) struggled to bring runners home as it stranded 12, allowing the Griffons (5-7, 2-0 MIAA) to stay within reach until they pushed across a runner in each of the final two innings.

Lance Barkley (3-0) pitched 6.1 scoreless innings in the no decision, allowing eight hits and two walks. Jaren Kutzke was credited with the loss as he surrendered two runs on five hits in 2.1 innings before Marcus McKinney appeared for the final out.

Darian Abram accounted for the lone Ichabod run as he went 2-for-5. Brett Nickle registered the RBI that brought Abram home in the third despite being hitless for the day. Josh Crosby had a double for one of his two hits, while Riley Krane and Kasey also tallied a pair of hits each.

After tying the game in the eighth at 1-1, Missouri Western used a solo home run in the ninth to take a 2-1 advantage.

The Ichabods will look to avoid the sweep in Monday's series finale with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
