MAGNOLIA, Ark. -- The Washburn Ichabods lost a pair of games at the SAU Invitational falling 6-2 to Texas A&M-Commerce and 11-2 to Tarleton State on Saturday afternoon. The Ichabods will wrap up the event with games against Texas A&M-Commerce and Newman on Sunday before returning home.
Game 1 - Texas A&M-Commerce 6, Washburn 2
The Ichabods took a 1-0 lead after their first at bat on a single to left by
Erica Harper which scored
Taylor Kemp who reached with a walk. The Lions came back with two in the bottom of the first taking advantage of an Ichabod error. The Lions would go up 2-1 taking advantage of the second of three errors in the game by Washburn.
In the sixth inning, Washburn pulled within 3-2 when
Savannah Moore singled and then was sent home on a sac fly by
Lacie Myers, but the Lions came back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth taking a 6-2 lead with two of the runs coming as uneared in the inning.
Kelsee Henry took the loss allowing one earned run in 3 1/3 innings pitched with two strikeouts.
Game 2 - Tarleton State 11, Washburn 2 (5 innings)
After the TexAnns scored 2 in the top of the first, Washburn came back with two in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at two after an RBI single by
Lacie Myers and a fielder's choice by
Taylor Kemp which scored
Savannah Moore and
Erica Harper respectively. Harper doubled in the inning.
The TexAnns broke the game open with four in the third and four in the fourth before wrapping up the scoring with one more in the fifth leading to the 11-2 win.
Lexi Crabtree took the loss for Washburn going 2 2/3 innings striking out four allowing five earned runs.
Harper had two hits and
Ashley Ruder and
Lacie Myers added one each.
