TOPEKA, Kan. --- A five-run third and double-figure hits was not enough for Washburn baseball team which dropped the Emporia State series finale, 13-7, in 10 innings as the Ichabods closed out their home schedule on Tuesday.

After plating three in the third to take a 4-0 lead, Washburn (19-22, 11-19 MIAA) answered in the bottom half with a five-spot. The rally began with a
Riley Krane (2-for-5) double to deep center allowing
Cole Gardner (3-for-5) to score from first on the play after reaching with a lead-off single. The hit for Krane marked his 38
th career double and tied him for fifth-most in program history with Connor Crimmins.

The Ichabods trimmed then deficit to two as Krane crossed home thanks to a
Josh Crosby sac fly to make it 4-2.
Darian Abram then lifted Washburn to a 5-4 advantage as he turned on the 3-2 offering for three-run home run. The shot to right was Abram's second of the second and scored
Tanner Triggs for and
Gabe Franklin.

WU then made quick work of the Hornets in the fourth before moving to a two-run following a solo shot from Krane the cleared the left field wall. The home run was his 12
th of the season and 24
th of his career.

Emporia State then pulled a run back in the fifth before Gardner responded for the Ichabods and drove home Abram with a single up the middle to make it 7-5.

Each side was then held scoreless until the ESU buzzed two runs in the ninth to draw level at 7-7. With momentum on their side Hornet batters posted six runs in the 10
th to claim a 13-7 advantage and escape from Falley Field with the win.

Washburn finished the contest with 12 hits and 10 runners left on base, while Emporia State tallied 17 hits and left nine runners stranded.

Ichabod starter
Jaren Kutzke pitched four innings with five runs on 10 hits and two strikeouts before making way for
Maustin Otterstatter who worked three scoreless innings with just two hits.
Drew Johnson was charged with the loss after
Marcus McKinney suffered a blown save opportunity.

Washburn returns to action tomorrow as it takes on non-conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma in a doubleheader. First-pitch of the opener from Durant, Okla., is slated for 2 p.m.
