Baseball falls to Central Oklahoma in doubleheader

Edmond, Okla. --- Washburn baseball was dealt a pair of losses Sunday in Edmond, Oklahoma as the Ichabods (20-26, 11-22 MIAA) fell to MIAA foe, Central Oklahoma, 8-6 and 15-7.
 
Washburn wraps up the 2017 campaign next weekend when it travels to Warrensburg, Missouri to take on Central Missouri.
 
Game 1
The Ichabods fell behind early as UCO plated six in the first. In the third, Darian Abram put Washburn on the board with a two-run home run for his third of the season. Riley Krane then added to the cause with a solo shot for his 13th of the season before Bowe Behymer drove in his 17th RBI of year to trim the deficit to 6-4.
 
Trailing 7-4 at the start of the fifth WU made the most of a pair of error as it cut the margin to 7-6 with runs from from Tanner Triggs and Behymer. The push back from the 'Bods ended there as they struggled to get runners on.
 
Jaren Kutzke was charged with the loss. Brock Gilliam worked 4.1 innings in his relief appearance while Maustin Otterstatter tossed the final 3.1 innings.
 
Game 2
With consecutive runs in the first five innings UCO took a commanding 8-3 lead. WU runs came in the second with a RBI single from JB Eary before Lance Barkley and Gabe Franklin crossed in the fourth.
 
Trailing 10-3 in the start of the eighth the Ichabods reduced the margin to a four-run deficit as Abram, Krane and Logan Twehous each scored. WU's final run came in the ninth as sac fly from Behymer allowed Abram to score.
 
Josh Ramirez was handed the loss as he tossed three innings before Drew Johnson, Quentin McGrath, Ryne Dowling, Blake Peterson, Wally Nellor and Matthew Hicks each made relief appearances.
 
Notes:
Abram finished the day 1-for-2 with three runs while drawing eight walks
Franklin went 4-for-9 on the day, with 2 RBI
