TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods evened their MIAA recorded at 7-7 while improving to 20-23 overall with doubleheader sweep over Nebraska-Kearney on Friday at the Washburn Softball Complex. The Ichabods will host Fort Hays State on Saturday and will honor seven seniors between games. The twinbill is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
Game 1 - Washburn 5, Nebraska-Kearney 3
After the Lopers scored solo runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead, Washburn came back with four of its own in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
After
Jordan Erickson led off the inning with a single and then advance to second on a wild pitch. After
Megan Stegman walked,
Savannah Moore walked to load the bases and
Lexie Myers was hit by a pitch and then
Dakota Sanders drew a bases loaded walk to score another run.
Erica Harper reached on a fielder's choice and then
Taylor Kemp singled scoing
Lexie Myers. Washburn scored another on a error by the Lopers to go up 4-2.
In the fifth, Harper connected on her eighth home run of the season stretching the lead to 5-2.
The Lopers scored one in the sixth to wrap up the scoring.
Kelsee Henry pitched the complete game improving to 9-11 on the season with four strikeouts.
Erickson led the Ichabods with two hits as each team recorded six.Â
Game 2 -- Washburn 3, Nebraska-Kearney 1
Washburn scored first in the nightcap after
Lexie Myers led off the inning with a double and after Sanders walked,
Maddie Anderson drove in Myers with a double to center pushing the Ichabods to a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth,
Savannah Moore's single to left scored
Ashley Ruder who reached after a single then stole second and then scored on Moore's RBI as Washburn took a 2-0 lead.
In the seventh, a lead off Loper home run by Halle Gydesen cut the lead in half at 2-1 but starting pitcher
Lexi Crabtree retired the final three batters for the 2-1 win.
Moore led the Ichabods with two hits. Crabtree finished with three strikeouts improving to 2-3 in the circle scattering four hits.
