WBB hosts Central Missouri Saturday for ThinkPink Day

TIPPING OFF
• Washburn women's basketball closes the month of January at Lee Arena on Saturday as it hosts MIAA leader Central Missouri at 1 pm.
• The Ichabods are 14-5 and 6-4 in the MIAA, tied for seventh-place in the conference standings with Fort Hays State.
Reagan Phelan leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points/game and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 41.1 percent (90-219) from the field.
• On Jan. 14, Reagan Phelan become the third player in program-history to score 32 points in a single-game and first player with at least 30 in over six seasons.
Alexis McAfee is the team leader from the charity stripe making 39 of 46 attempts (.848).
Axelle Bernard is the team's block and rebound leader,  averaging 2.2 blocks and 8.6 boards a game.
• Saturday afternoon will be the Ichabods' annual ThinkPink contest as they join the fight against breast cancer.

A WASHBURN WIN...
• is better than a loss.
• ends a two-game skid against UCM and would be the first home victory against the Jennies since 3/2/2013
• snaps the Jennies' 13-game win streak.
• improves its record to 15-5 overall, 7-4 in the MIAA.
• gives head coach Ron McHenry career win No. 421, making him 10 shy of tying Patty Dick for the program-record in career wins (431).

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY?
• The Ichabods are holding MIAA opponents to around 65 points per contest (64.7) and .385 shooting from three-point range.
• Phelan is WU's leading scorer in MIAA play, averaging 17.9 points/game, while shooting .432 on FGs, .444 on 3FG, and .875 on FTs with 2.9 assists per game.
• In the last five games, Phelan has converted 10 of 18 shots (.556) from behind the arc and is averaging a steals/game.
Alexis McAfee is averaging 12.2 pts and 2.2 assists/game while shooting .404 (21-52) on FGs and .300 (9-30) on 3FGs.
Axelle Bernard is averaging a team-best 9.2 rebounds in the last five games alongside 7.4 ppg, and 2.6 blocks.

• Bernard is ranked second among MIAA leaders in blocks (38) and blocks per game (2.1) ... listed 28th in blocks and 33rd in blocks per game among NCAA Division II leaders.
• Bernard's 6.4 defensive rebounds a game is fourth-best among MIAA leaders ... averaging 6.1 defensive boards against MIAA opponenets.

AT THE LINE
• Opened the season with .678 shooting from the line through the first seven games.
• Season-high mark of .882 (15-17) came against at home non-conference opponent Nebraska-Christian on Nov. 15.
• The Ichabods are shooting .738 (93-126) during the month of January.
• WU is shooting .773 (126-163) against MIAA foes.
• Phelan has made 29 of 34 attempts (.853) from the line in the last five games,
• Against the MIAA, McAfee has made 22 of 26 free throws (.846).
• The Ichabods are 8-3 on the season when making more FTs then opponents and 7-2 when making fewer trips to the line.

• The Ichabods have rolled out four different starting lineups this season with the Bernard, Phelan, McAfee and Taylor Blue being the constants in each variation.
• The collective group average just over around 50 points a game (51.5) for the season and in league play (50.6).
• Starters this season are shooting .426 on FGs, .321 on 3FG, .764 on FTs while holding opponents to .371 on FGs and .291 on 3FG.

• Phelan is 81 points shy of tying Emily Shopper (1995-97) for 40th on the Washburn all-time points list with 693.
• Bernard is listed 23rd on WU's all-time block list (42) is two shy of breaking into the top 20 ... registered third career double-double Wednesday against SBU ... averaging 10.5 points, 11.5 boards and 4.5 blocks in last two games.
• McAfee has scored double-figure points in 7 of the last 8 games ... has 10 double-digit scoring games this season ... 14.0 points a game during the last four outings ... notched her first career double-double on Wednesday against Southwest Baptist.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
• This is the 34th season that Washburn men's and women's basketball have called Lee Arena home, with women's basketball owning a 410-92 mark (.817) in the venue.
• The 500th women's game at Lee Arena was played last Thursday (1/11/18) vs Northeastern State.
• Under head coach Ron McHenry, Washburn is 216-45 all-time when playing at Lee Arena dating back to the 2000-01 campaign. 
• Washburn is 9-3 this season playing at Lee Arena.
• WU ranked sixth in Div. II in attendance last season as it averaged 1,468 fans through 18 games. The Ichabods have been among nation's top drawing teams finishing in the top 10 since the 2000-01 campaign.

ABOUT CENTRAL MISSOURI
• The Jennies are 16-1 on the year and atop the MIAA standings at 10-0.
• UCM is riding a 13-game win streak with its only loss coming against Arkansas-Fort Smith on Nov. 19.
• UCM is among the top three in the MIAA in FG% (1st/.470), scoring defense (2nd/56.6), scoring margin (1st/19.4) and turnover margin (2nd/+4.5) among other categories.
• Paige Redmond is ninth in the MIAA in scoring (15.2/game), fifth in assists (3.6/game) and 11th in FT% (.831).
• Morgan Fleming is 15th in the MIAA in scoring (13.6/game) and 15th in FT% (.789).
• Kayonne Lee is fourth in the MIAA in blocks (1.6/game), eighth in rebounds (8.2/game) and 10th in steals (1.7/game) while averaging 8.6 points a game.
• Megan Skaggs is third on the team in scoring (10.8) and has notched 15 or more points in three of the last five games. 
• Head coach Dave Slifer is in his 13th season the Jennies with a 251-136 record during that time and is 635-235 all-time.

A LIL' BIT OF HISTORY
• Saturday will be the 57th meeting all-time between Washburn and Central Missouri.
• The Ichabods lead the all-time series, 39-18.
• Since joining the MIAA in 1990, Washburn is 20-7 when facing UCM at Lee Arena.
• In Warrensburg, Washburn is 15-10 all-time.
• The Jennies have won four of the last five meetings.
• Washburn fell to UCM last season in Warrensburg, 64-63.

MCHENRY MONTHLY BREAKDOWN
The 2017-18 campaign marks the 49th season of Washburn women's basketball. The program is 881-392-1 all-time, has seen 23 seasons with at least 20 wins, and 17 appearances NCAA Division II Tournament appearances with the 2004-05 team crowned as national champions. From Jan. 26, 2005 to Mar. 11, 2006, Washburn won 51 consecutive games. The streak is the longest in NCAA Division II and sixth all-time in NCAA history.
