NOTES | Women's Hoops hosts Jennies Saturday in Toys for Tots game

THE TIP-OFF
The Washburn women's basketball team looks to build off conference opening win from Thursday as it turns its attention to host defending national champion, Central Missouri. The Ichabods (3-4, 1-0 MIAA) will tip-off with the Jennies (6-1, 1-0 MIAA) Saturday at 1 pm at Lee Arena. In addition, Saturday will be Washburn Athletics' annual Toys for Tots Game as fans attending are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate.

THEY GOT HISTORY
• Saturday's meeting will be the 59th meeting.
• Washburn leads the all-time series 39-19, 20-8 record at home.
• The Ichabods have dropped each of the last three meetings with their  last win against UCM on its home floor was March 2, 2013 (59-53).

SCOUTIN' THE JENS
• UCM is 6-1 on the year as it opened with a four-game win streak before falling to St. Mary's (Texas) in double overtime. 
• The Jennies are dangerous from the outside as their first in the MIAA threes per game (9.7) and attempts (193) while second-overall in total threes made (68) – as a result, ranked 12th, 32nd and 22nd respectively on the Division II leaderboard.
• UCM is in the bottom third of the conference in rebounds (11th/260), rebounds per game (12th/37.14) and scoring defense (12th/66.4).
• The core of UCM is Morgan Fleming, Paige Redmond and Megan Skaggs with each averaging well over double-figures ... Fleming leads the way with 16.3 points per game with Skaggs and Redmond netting 15.7 and 15.3 respectively.

50TH SEASON
The 2018-19 academic year marks the 50th season of women's athletics at Washburn University, which began with volleyball, basketball, softball, field hockey and  gymnastics. Although, field hockey and gymnastics are no longer available, the offerings for female student-athletes have grown to eight sports with the addition of soccer, tennis, and most cross country and track and field.
