NOTES | Women's Basketball closes regular season Saturday in Tahlequah

TIPPING OFF
• Washburn women's basketball closes the 2017-18 regular season on Saturday against Northeastern State in Tahlequah at 1:30 pm.
• WU is 18-9 overall, 10-8 in the MIAA standings and will host a first round game of the MIAA Championship on Monday, Feb. 26 at 7 pm.
• The Ichabods have worked themselves out of a rut have won their last four outings.
• Reagan Phelan leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points/game and is making 41.1 percent (130-316) attempts from the field.
• Alexis McAfee has converted 51 of 61 (.836) FTs.
• Axelle Bernard is the team's per game leader in blocks (2.1) and rebounds (8.2).

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY?
• The Ichabods are 4-1 in their last five games and are shooting .460 on FGs, .416 on 3FGs, and .739 on FTs, while holding opponents to .361 on FGs and .324 on 3FGs.
• WU is averaging about 63 points (63.3) a game during its last three games while opponents average north of 67 a game (67.3).
• Phelan is WU's leading scorer in MIAA play, averaging 16.7 points/game, while shooting .424 on FGs, .389 on 3FG, and .897 on FTs with 3.0 assists per game.
• Phelan is averaging 12.7 ppg, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists a game in the last three contests.

• WU is ranked fifth in the MIAA in scoring defense (61.5 ppg) and began the week 64th on the NCAA Division II chart. 
• The Ichabods are also fourth in the MIAA in FG% defense (.376).
• WU is sixth in the league in steals (210) and seventh in steals per game (7.8).
• Washburn is seventh in the MIAA in forced turnovers per game (15.7).
• Bernard is listed among the top 35 in the nation in total blocks (32nd, 57) and blocks per game (31st, 2.1) and is second-overall in the MIAA for both categories.
• Bernard is also among the top 10 rebounders in the conference in total boards (7th), 8.2 per game (8th), and 6.0 defensive boards per game (5th). 
• Phelan's 54 total steals is fourth-best in the MIAA while her 2.1 steals a game has her tied for fourth-overall.

AT THE LINE
• Washburn opened the season shooting .678 from the line through the first seven games.
• Season-high mark .882 came against Nebraska Christian on Nov. 15, as WU made 15 of 17.
• WU is sixth in the MIAA in FT% (.726), 10th in made FTs (321) and eighth in FT attempts (442).
• Against conference foes, the Ichabods' are seventh in FT% (.754) and tied-10th in made FTs (202).
• In true road games this season, WU has made 118 of 161 (.733) FTs.
• Phelan is fourth among MIAA leaders in FT attempts (134) and FTs made (109), as she shoots 81.3 percent.
• In the last five games, Phelan has completed 22 of 24 (.917) FTs ... Bernard has made 7 of 7 (1.000) with McAfee making 10 of 13 (.769) from the FT stripe.

THE STARTING FIVE
• The Ichabods have rolled out four different starting lineups this season.
• The collective group average 51 points a game for the season.
• Against the MIAA, Washburn starters are shooting .419 on FGs, .335 on 3FG, .824 on FTs, while opposing starters to .383 from the field and .319 from three-point distance.

RECORD PLAYER NOTES
• Phelan is listed 35th on Washburn's all-time career scoring chart with 733 points, and is 14th in scoring average with 13.1 a game.
• With 16 points in Saturday's win over SBU, Phelan became just the 22nd different player in program-history to eclipse the 400 points in a single-season.
• On Jan. 14, Phelan become the third player in program-history to score 32 points in a single-game and first player with 30 or more points in over six seasons.
• Bernard 57 blocks has her listed 15th-overall on the career charts and second in single-season marks ...  the Awans, Belgium product is three blocks shy of tying Brenda Shaffer-Dahl's single-season record (60) set 1988-89.
• Bernard is on-track to post the best single-season blocks average (2.1) and in doing so would surpass Kelly's Jennings mark of 2.0 a game set in 1986-87.
• Bernard is six rebounds (222) shy of cracking the program's top 20 for most rebounds in a season and tying Jennifer Butcher.

AWAY FROM HOME
• The Ichabods are 5-5 in true games this season and 2-0 when on a neutral floor.
• In 10 road games this season, the Ichabods are shooting .415 on FGs, .345 on 3FGs, and .733 on FTs, while opponents shoot .392 on FGs and .332 on 3FGs with .775 on FTs.
• On the road this season, opponents have outscored WU, 668-634, and have averaged 63.4 points/game.
• Bernard (11.5), Phelan (14.8) and McAfee (11.4) are each averaging double-digit points while on the road.

ABOUT NORTHEASTERN STATE
• The RiverHawks are 10-15 overall, and are 11th in the MIAA standings at 6-11.
• Northeastern State snapped a seven-game losing streak Thursday with a convincing, 75-67, win at home over Emporia State.
• NSU is in the bottom half of the MIAA in scoring (11th) and scoring defense (9th), but are among the top half in blocks (4th), FG% defense (5th), and 3FG% (5th).
• Cailyn Long averages a team-best 11.2 ppg while Lauryn Blevins follows with 10.3 a game.
• Bailee Eldred leads NSU in rebounds average (5.3).
• Joi Bertrand is fourth in the MIAA in block (38), while Blevins is tied-7th in blocks a game (1.1).
• The RiverHawks are led by alum, Fala Bullock who is in her first season on the NSU sideline.

A LIL' BIT OF HISTORY
• Saturday marks the 13th all-time meeting between Washburn and Northeastern State.
• Washburn leads the series 7-5 but fell to the RiverHawks, 67-58, earlier this season.
• In Tahlequah, WU is 3-2 with an average margin of victory of +4.
• Northeastern State is 6-6 at the NSU Center this season.
• Washburn has faced NSU twice in postseason, first in 2010 during the NCAA Regional Tournament and the second during the 2015 MIAA Championship Tournament.
• When Washburn visited Tahlequah last season, the Ichabods won 81-69 giving head coach Ron McHenry career win No. 400.

WASHBURN TRADITION
The 2017-18 campaign marks the 49th season of Washburn women's basketball. The program is 883-392-1 all-time, has seen 23 seasons with at least 20 wins, and 17 appearances NCAA Division II Tournament appearances with the 2004-05 team crowned as national champions. From Jan. 26, 2005 to Mar. 11, 2006, Washburn won 51 consecutive games. The streak is the longest in NCAA Division II and sixth all-time in NCAA history.

UPCOMING ON THE SCHEDULE
The Ichabods will venture into postseason play on Monday, Feb. 26 when they host the first round of the MIAA Tournament at Lee Arena at 7 pm, opponent not yet to be determined.
