Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. --- Washburn baseball retained control of its series with Southeastern Oklahoma, splitting its doubleheader Saturday. In a defensive struggle, the Ichabods dropped the opener, 1-0, before timely hitting late helped them pull out a 3-1 win the nightcap. Leading 2-1 in the series, Washburn (3-3) will close its four-game set with the Savage Storm (2-4) on Sunday, first pitch is set for 12 pm.
Game 1: Washburn 0, Southeastern Oklahoma 1
After registering a season-high in hits a less than 24 hours earlier, the Washburn bats mustarded just three hits in a low hitting affair in the second game of the series, as it combined for seven hits.
Javis Larson opened the day with a lead-off single before but was ultimately stranded as the next seven Ichabods batters were retired.
Xavier De Leon and
Brady Hoover each tallied single base knocks but neither were able to advance along the base path.
In the seventh, Washburn nearly pushed a runner across as
Steven Jacobson advanced to third on an error and steal after getting on with a one-out walk, but was thrown out at home.
Washburn starter
Jacob Head (0-1) was solid in his appearance, despite being dealt the loss, with five strikeouts in six innings of work. Head retired 17 of the 22 batters and allowed just two hits in his outing, one in the first and one in the fifth which resulted in the game's only run.
Game 2: Washburn 3, Southeastern Oklahoma 1
Scoreless through three, Hoover tallied the first of the game as
Mitchell Lady registered a pinch-hit RBI with a two-out single in the fourth.
Tied at 1-1 after SOSU pushed a runner across in the fourth, the Ichabods registered another two-out run as
Wyatt Featherston notches his second home run with solo shot to left in the sixth. Washburn then made it 3-1 in the seventh as De Leon scored unearned tally as a balk brought him across.
Ichabod starter
Nick Sloan recorded his first victory of the season. Sloan tossed five innings allowing one run, none earned, on six hits.
Braden Minor was credited with his first save, going scoreless and surrendering just two hits in the final two innings.
