Baseball set for series with Lions in Joplin

LEADING OFF
Washburn looks to build of its MIAA series win last week at Pittsburg State, as it resumes conference play with a three-game set at Missouri Southern.  The Ichabods enter the series at 8-7 on the year and 3-3 in league action, trail the all-time series 36-55. 

A GLIMPSE AT MISSOURI SOUTHERN
» The Lions began the week at 11-5 overall and 4-2 against the MIAA.
» Missouri Southern dropped its last MIAA series, 2-1, to Missouri Western.
» Collectively, the Lion bats began the week batting .276 with 149 hits, 50 extra base knocks including 31 doubles and 13 home runs. They own a .391 on-base percentage and are 22-for-28 (.786) in stolen base attempts.
» On the mound, the MSSU staff has a 3.43 ERA in 139 innings with 174 strikeouts, 45 walks and posting a opposing batting average of .223, all to start the week.

DOUBLE PLAY BALL
» Washburn has turned 12 double plays, good for third in the MIAA and 32nd-most in Division II. 
» Washburn has twice turned a season-high three double plays, first at Southeastern Oklahoma (2/9) then versus Rockhurst (2/13).
» Since 2015, the Washburn defense has turned 164 double plays including a program-best 57 during the 2016 campaign.

ON THE MOUND
» Nick Sloan began the week as the conference leader in earned run average (0.92) and wins (3), while listed third in walks per nine (1.83) and fourth among MIAA leaders in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.75).
