Ichabods wrap up home slate with Blue Tigers on Saturday

OPENING TIP
> The Washburn Ichabods will finish off the home slate on Senior Day in Lee Arena as they will play host to Lincoln in the final home game of the season at 3 p.m. on Saturday …it will be the final appearance by Ichabod seniors Rathen Carter and Keven Biggs.
> The Ichabods (15-10, 10-6 MIAA) are coming off a 76-74 win over Central Missouri on Thursday night in Lee Arena.
> The Blue Tigers (10-15, 7-9 MIAA) had a two-game winning streak snapped at Central Missouri on Tuesday night in a 69-62 loss.
> The Ichabods topped the Blue Tigers 75-50 on Jan. 29 in Jefferson City, Mo.
> The Ichabods have clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament and currently sit fifth in the MIAA standings with three games to go in the regular season. Lincoln is in eighth place in the MIAA standings. The top 10 teams in the final standings will be in Kansas City March 4-8 for the postseason event.
> The Ichabods were tabbed third in both the MIAA Preseason Coaches and Preseason Media Polls for the second year in a row which were released on Oct. 9 at the MIAA Basketball Media Day in Kansas City.
 
ICHABOD NOTES
> Tyler Geiman leads the Ichabods in scoring at 15.1 ppg as well as assists (5.7) and minutes (34.9) and he is second in rebounds (5.8).
> Geiman has 142 3-pointers in his Washburn career … he is 11th on the all-time 3-point chart.
> Geiman's 380 career assists at Washburn and is second all-time on the Ichabod chart … the Ichabod all-time leader is Jordan Canfield (1992-97) who had 756, which is second on the MIAA career chart.
>  Jalen Lewis is scoring 12.7 ppg while Drew Maschoff is scoring 11.1 ppg and Jonny Clausing is scoring 10.0 ppg.
>  Clausing leads the team in rebounds at 7.2 rpg (fourth in the MIAA) … he also leads the team in blocks at 1.8 per game which leads the MIAA and is also 20th in the latest national rankings and his total blocks is 18th overall nationwide.
> Rathen Carter is scoring 6.1 ppg with 2.3 rpg … he scored a career-high 18 points against Central Missouri in the first meeting.
> Keven Biggs is scoring 5.8 ppg off the bench after starting the first 12 games of the season.
> Tyler Nelson is scoring 5.2 ppg coming off a career-high 16 points against Central Missouri last time out and Jace Williams is scoring 4.8 and Connor Deffebaugh is scoring 4.6
> The Ichabods are currently ninth in the MIAA in field goal percentage at .453 and they rank eighth in field goal defense at .437.
> The Ichabods are currently seventh in the MIAA in scoring average at 74.5 ppg and they rank seventh in scoring defense at 70.0 ppg.
> The Ichabods are 13th in free throw percentage in the MIAA shooting 69 percent and Lincoln is last at 61 percent.
> During the last five minutes of games however the Ichabods are shooting 79 percent from the free throw line as a team hitting 112 of 142 attempts … Jalen Lewis is 41 of 45 (91 percent) in the last five minutes of games this season and 51 of 56 (91 percent) for his Washburn career.
> Tyler Geiman is third in the MIAA in assists (5.7 apg) and is third in the MIAA in minutes per game at 34.9 and is 11th in scoring while ranking 12th in rebounds, eighth in field goal percentage, fourth in 3-point field goal percentage, 16th in free throw percentage, 16th in steals and seventh in 3-pointers made per game.

COACHES
WASHBURN ICHABOD HEAD COACH BRETT BALLARD
>  is 61-28 in his third season as the Ichabods' head coach and 94-58 overall in his fifth year as a head coach.
>  has led the Ichabods to two NCAA postseason appearances in both seasons at Washburn.
>  was named the Washburn Ichabod men's basketball head coach on April 6, 2017 after spending the 2014-15 to 2016-17 seasons as an assistant coach with the Wake Forest basketball program after working under head coach Danny Manning 2014-17 seasons and at the University of Tulsa during the 2012-14 seasons.
>  he helped Wake Forest to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2009-10 season following the 2016-17 season.
>  while at Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane played in the postseason both years, including earning a No. 13 seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Tulsa also participated in the 2013 CBI, finishing that season with a winning record of 17-16 overall.
>  before joining Manning at Tulsa, Ballard spent two seasons as the head basketball coach at Baker University going 33-30 overall, including a 21-12 mark in his final season at the helm in 2011-12.
>  prior to taking over the head coaching position at Baker, Ballard spent seven years on Bill Self's staff at Kansas, his alma mater.
>  he played two years for the Jayhawks under head coach Roy Williams from 2000-02 after transferring from Hutchinson Community College in his hometown of Hutchinson, Kan. TOPEKA, Kan. – After being tied at the break and trailing by as many as 10 in the second half and one with 1:52 to go in the game, the Washburn Ichabods finished off the comeback hitting 4 of 5 free throws down the stretch and their only field goal attempt in a 76-74 win over Central Missouri on Thursday night in Lee Arena.
With the Mules holding a 71-70 lead with 1:52 to play after a pair of free throws, Jace Williams used a traditional 3-point play with 1:35 to go putting Washburn up 73-71. After the teams traded turnovers, a UCM missed a layup with 19 seconds to play, Washburn recovered a jump ball with 17 seconds left and Jalen Lewis was fouled where he hit the first and missed the second.
The Mules (10-16, 5-12 MIAA) hit a layup with 10 seconds to play and Keven Biggs hit both free throws with three seconds left putting Washburn up 76-73. The Mules were fouled before attempting a 3-pointer and hit the first free throw cutting the lead to 76-74 and intentionally missed the second which was grabbed by Tyler Nelson sealing the win for Washburn, who improved to 15-10 and 10-6 in the MIAA.
The game was tied at 32 at the break after a hot-shooting Mules team connected on 57 percent of their shots while Washburn was 12 of 27 for a 44 percent clip. The Mules continued their torrid shooting in the second half hitting 60 percent from the field to finish at 58 percent for the game hitting 28 of 48 shots and 12 of 21 from deep.
Tyler Geiman recorded his sixth career double double and fourth of the season with a team-high 17 points and 10 assists adding six rebounds. Tyler Nelson recorded a career-high 16 points off the bench hitting four 3-pointers in the game.  Jonny Clausing had 12 points adding five rebounds.
Matt Wilkinson led the Mules with 31 points in 30 minutes of play hitting 10 of 14 3-pointers in the game.
Washburn was outrebounded 27 to 24 in the game. Washburn was 17 of 23 from the free throw line including 14 of 17 in the second half while the Mules were 6 of 9. Washburn also forced 19 Mule turnovers leading to 14 points.
Washburn's bench was huge in the game outscoring the Mule reserves 42 to 6.
 
ABOUT LINCOLN
> Lincoln is 10-15 this season and 7-9 in MIAA games.
> The Blue Tigers had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 69-62 loss to Central Missouri last time out on Feb. 18.
> Jonell Burton leads the team in scoring at 15.0 ppg and he scored 40 against Harris-Stowe on Nov. 22.
> Cameron Potts is scoring 11.5 ppg and Marcel Burton is scoring 10.6 ppg improving to 11.2 ppg in MIAA play.

>   Overall the Ichabods are 13-1 against Lincoln in Jefferson City all-time having won their last 14 games with the lone loss coming in 1957 in the first meeting in the series.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabods won their 14th game in a row in Jefferson City and their fourth overall against holding the Lincoln Blue Tigers to a season low in points in a 75-50 win on Wednesday night.
The Washburn Ichabods (12-7, 7-3 MIAA) led 33-22 at the half in a strange scoring opening 20 minutes as the Ichabods did not hit their first 2-point field goal until a dunk by Rathen Carter with 7:44 to play in the frame. Washburn was 6 of 10 from deep prior to hitting its first shot inside the arc going 0 of 7. Washburn also had scoring droughts of 5:25 and 3:21 during the first half, but defensively the Ichabods held the Blue Tigers to 9 of 22 shooting and 2 of 14 from deep to take the 11-point margin into the break.
Washburn continued the defensive effort against the Blue Tigers holding Lincoln to 3 of 16 shooting over the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Ichabods outscored the Blue Tigers 21 to 8 over the first 11:44 of the second half pushing the lead to 26 with under a minute to go.
Jalen Lewis led the Ichabods with a game-high 19 going 6 of 6 from the free throw line hitting three 3-pointers. Tyler Geiman scored 18 hitting four 3-pointers and Carter finished with 14 points. Jonny Clausing finished with 10 points adding nine rebounds. Drew Maschoff had a career-high 10 rebounds and Geiman had five assists.
Marcel Burton led the Blue Tigers (7-12, 4-6 MIAA) with 10 points.
Washburn finished the game 24 of 57 from the field hitting 12 3-pointers on 26 attempts. The Ichabods were 15 of 22 from the free throw line. The Ichabods held Lincoln to 19 of 56 shooting overall limiting the Blue Tigers to 6 of 25 shooting from deep.
Washburn held a 43 to 36 advantage on the glass and forced the Blue Tigers into 19 turnovers.
