TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team opened the 2021 home slate at Gahnstrom Field in its first game of the 2021 Washburn Invitational presented by the Topeka Capitol Plaza on Friday in a walk-off 5-4 win over Truman. The Ichabods will continue play on Saturday starting at 3 pm vs McKendree followed by a 5 p.m. game with Mary.
The Ichabods jumped on the board first with their first at bat
Ashton Friend singled scoring
Hadley Kerschen who reached on a double staking the Ichabods to a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs tied the score in the top of the second and it was not until the third inning the Ichabods broke the tie with 2-run homer by Friend scoring her and
Kimi Patterson who was hit by a pitch leading off the inning.
The Bulldogs added one in the fifth, but the Ichabods came back with a run in the bottom of the inning when
Brianna Fuchs singled scoring
Ellie Dixon taking a 4-2 lead. Truman (0-1) scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh tying the score at 4-4 sitting up
Bri Francis' walk-off triple scoring
Maddie Stipsits who reached with a walk to lead off the seventh.
Jaycee Ginter tossed 2 1/3 innings in relief striking out six with one walk.
Marrit Mead, Friend and Francis each had two hits to lead the Ichabod nine-hit attack.
