TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team picked up a pair of wins improving to 4-2 on the season on the second day of the Washburn Invitational presented by the Topeka Capitol Hotel and Plaza. Washburn will wrap up the event with two games on Sunday.
Game 1 – WU 13, McKendree 0
The Ichabods jumped on the board first in the bottom of the first with three runs as
Ashton Friend picked up a sac fly RBI scoring Marritt Mead who tripled to lead off for the Ichabods and would then score on a ground out by
Bri Francis.
Kimi Patterson doubled to left scoring
Jaycee Ginter who singled.
Washburn added another run in the second when
Hadley Kerschen singled scoring Mead who walked and swiped second base and then in the third the Ichabods added another when
Brianna Fuchs drove in Ginter with a sac fly staking the Ichabods to a 5-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Ichabods blew the game open with eight runs on seven hits sending 13 batters to plate. Friend had three RBI in the inning and Cailey Oldmeyer had two RBI in the frame.
In the circle, Reagen Hamm struck out eight allowing only a first inning single to the Bearcats.
Friend finished with 4 RBI in the game and Francis and Oldemeyer each had two.
Game 2 – WU 4, Mary 3
The Ichabods were down 1-0 after the second inning before tying the score at 1-1 after an RBI double by Kerschen scoring Mead. After Mary took a 3-1 lead, the Ichabods came back with three runs in the sixth taking advantage of some Mary miscues as Fuchs and Maddie Stipsite each had RBI in the inning.
Hamm picked up the win in relief tossing four innings with four strikeouts.
