LUBBOCK, Texas – The Washburn Ichabod softball team wrapped up the weekend going 1-1 falling to West Texas A&M 3-2 before wrapping up the weekend with a 6-2 win over UT-Permian Basin. Washburn (2-2) will return to action next weekend at the Edmond Regional Festival starting Friday.
Marrit Mead led the Ichabods on the afternoon with three hits and scoring two runs while
Hadley Kerschen,
Ashton Friend and
Bri Francis each drove in two runs.
Game 1 – West Texas A&M 3, Washburn 2
Ichabods scored first in the bottom of the second inning when
Jenna Moore scored on an RBI by
Kimi Patterson. Moore reached on a double in the inning. The Lady Buffs tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the third on a 2-out RBI single.
Neither team would score until the seventh inning when the Lady Buffs scored two runs with two outs on a double down the line as WTAMU took a 3-1 lead into Washburn's final at bat. In the seventh,
Ashton Friend hit her first home run of the season to left, but the Ichabods would not score again.
Marrit Mead, Moore, Patterson and Friend had the four hits for the Ichabods. Reagan Hamm took the loss falling to 1-1 in the circle striking out six.
Game 2 – WU 6, UT-Permian Basin 2
The Ichabods scored in their first at bat in the top of the first on an RBI ground out by
Bri Francis which scored Mead who led off the game with a double. Washburn added another solo run in the third when
Hadley Kerschen's 2-out doubled scored
Autymn Schreiner who led off the inning with a double.
Washburn added another run in the fourth when
Maddie Stipsits scored on a sac fly by Friend. In the bottom of the fourth, UTPB added a solo run trimming the Ichabod lead back to 3-1.
Washburn (2-2) broke open the game in the fifth inning adding three runs after
Paige Robbins led off the inning with a single followed by singles from Mead and from
Hadley Kerschen, that scored Robbins.
Bri Francis' 2-RBI double scored Mead and Kerschen putting Washburn up 6-1.
The Falcons (0-4) added a solo run in the seventh cutting the lead to 6-2 but get no closer.
Mead and Kerschen each had two hits and Kerschen and Francis each drove in two.
Jaycee Ginter picked up her first collegiate win tossing six innings striking out two allowing one earned run.
