EMPORIA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team opened the Emporia State 5-State Classic splitting a pair of games topping former MIAA foe Southwest Baptist 5-0 before falling to Minnesota State 7-0. Washburn will be back in action on Saturday with two more games.
Against Southwest Baptist the Ichabods started the scoring with a run in the second inning when
Brianna Fuchs hit a single scoring
Jaycee Ginter staking Washburn to a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Washburn added three runs capped by RBI by
Marrit Mead and
Hadley Kerschen. In the seventh, Washburn scored its final run on a solo home run by Ginter in the seventh.
Ginter tossed the one-hit shutout with five strikeouts and no walks facing only 22 batters in the game improving to 3-1 on the season.
In the second game against Minnesota State, scored all seven of its runs in the third inning taking the nightcap 7-0.
Ashton Friend, Skyler Darnell, Ginter and
Jenna Moore all had hits for the Ichabods.
