Ichabod softball team blanks 2 foes on day 2 of ESU 5-State Classic

EMPORIA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team outscored its opponents 20-0 in two games on the second day of the ESU 5-State Classic with a 9-0 win over Minnesota State-Moorhead and an 11-0 win over Wayne State. The Ichabods will wrap up action with Quincy at noon on Sunday before opening MIAA play at Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State on March 12 and 13.

Game 1 – The Ichabods picked up a 9-0, 5-inning win over Minnesota State-Moorhead on Saturday afternoon. Washburn scored a run in the first after Marrit Mead walked to lead off the inning and then came around to scoring on an RBI single by Jaycee Ginter.
Washburn broke the game open with five runs in the second capped by a 3-RBI triple by Brianna Fuchs.
 
Ginter picked up the win in the circle tossing four innings striking out seven with one walk throwing 59 pitches finishing with 2 RBI.
 
Washburn 11, Wayne State 0
For the second-straight game the Washburn Ichabod pitching staff tossed a shutout as Reagan Hamm moved to 6-2 scattering three hits in an 11-0 win moving the Ichabods to 10-3 on the season.
 
After a scoreless first inning, the Ichabods struck for four runs in the second sending nine batters to the plate. After back to back Wildcat walks to Mattie Stipsits and Jenna Moore, Fuchs hit a single to center driving in one and then after a single by Mead, Hadley Kerschen had a 2-RBI single and then Ashton Friend drove in Mead staking Washburn to a 4-0 lead.
 
In the third, Washburn sent 11 to the plate one singles by Ginter, Stipsits, Fuchs and Kerschen as Fuchs, Kerschen and Friend picking up RBI and Mead drawing a bases loaded walk. Washburn wrapped up the game in the fourth with a singles by Moore and Fuchs and a 2 RBI single by Mead.
 
Hamm retired eight of the last nine batters she faced.
