Ichabods fall in doubleheader with #16 Bronchos

TOPEKA, Kan. – Playing for the first time in three weeks, costly errors led to extra at bats as the No. 16 Central Oklahoma Bronchos swept a doubleheader from Washburn on Saturday at Gahnstrom Field. The Ichabods return to MIAA play hosting Newman on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Game 1 – #16 UCO 4, WU 3
An error by the Ichabods in the top of the fifth inning led to the go-ahead run as the Bronchos took the opening game 4-3.

The Ichabods jumped on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the third inning when Paige Robbins led off the inning with a single. After Marritt Mead reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second, she would later score on Ashton Friend's 2-run homer down the left field line.  The Ichabods added another in the inning after Bri Francis singled and then would score on Jaycee Ginter's triple to right field.

UCO came back with three runs in the fourth on a 3-run homer by Amelya Huggins tying the score at 3-3 and then in the fifth took advantage of an Ichabod error scoring what would be the winning run in the top of the fifth.

Washburn out hit the Bronchos 8 to 6 in the opener with Ginter and Robbins each recording two hits. Raegen Hamm struck out five in the loss dropping to 10-4 on the season.

The Ichabods scored a run in the bottom of the sixth when Robbins connected on a double to right center and then scored on a single to left by Mead helping the Ichabods (19-6, 5-3 MIAA) to avoid the shutout.
