WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track team took a small but powerful group to Central Missouri for the Vernon Kennedy Classic and returned with three school records and seven personal bests and two NCAA provisional qualifiers. The full squad will be in action May 7-9 at the MIAA Track and Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
Chia Okoro set a school record in the 400m in a time of 57.13 finishing second overall. Her time topped previous school-best mark of 58.75 set in 2017. Okoro's previous PR in the event was 1:00.39.
Colton Dunkle had an NCAA provisional mark and broke the Washburn record in the shot put with a second-place finish with a throw of 17.03m (55-10.50) breaking a record that has stood since 1980.
Branden Rose snapped the school record in the discus by nearly six feet after his third-place finish and an NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 52.73m (173-00) besting the previous school record of 50.97m (167-03).
