Big day pushes Ichabod women's track and field team into Sunday finals

EMPORIA, Kan. -- Day two of the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Emporia, Kansas saw a surge of personal bests, NCAA provisional marks, and crucial team points as the women's squad put together a strong showing heading into Saturday's finals. The Ichabods are in second place entering the final day of the championships with 42 points.

Naiuri Krein was outstanding in the heptathlon, winning the overall title with 5,252 points and earning 10 team points, All-MIAA honors, and a provisional qualifier. Krein won four of the seven events: 100m hurdles (14.27), 200m (25.18), shot put (12.57m), and 800m (2:21.81), while finishing no lower than fifth in the others.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Eve Weber was dominant, winning in a time of 10:37.80 and collecting 10 team points, All-MIAA honors, and a provisional qualifier. Riley Ammons also ran a PR, finishing 10th in 12:03.65.

Ta'Mijha Nichols had a great Saturday on the track with a blistering 11.46 in the 100m prelims, finishing first overall with a personal best and NCAA provisional mark. McKenzie Hayse (5th, 11.70), Maya Pattison (6th, 11.73), and Alyssa Hutcherson (7th, 11.78) also advanced to the final, making it four team members in the 100m final. Nichols continued her strong meet with a third-place 24.21 in the 200m prelims, also a PR and provisional time. Hayse (5th, 24.45) and Isabella Kupka (7th, 24.69) joined her in advancing, both with PRs. Kupka also qualified in the 400m with an eighth-place 56.18, while Kereser Augustin moved on with a 54.43, good for third and a provisional mark.

Lexie Fontaine ran 2:13.23 in the 800m prelims to qualify for finals and hit a provisional standard. Katelyn Jones posted a personal best of 2:19.66.

Krein also came back to place 6th in the 100m hurdles prelims (14.30), advancing to the final alongside Kaylee James (7th, 14.41 – PR). Ashley Heavner reached the 400m hurdles final with a time of 1:05.24.

In the field, Isabel Demarco de Quadros cleared 4.18m in the pole vault to take second place, earn All-MIAA honors, and provisionally qualify for nationals. In the long jump, Hayse finished 7th with a personal best of 5.70m for two points and a provisional mark. Hutcherson placed 14th, while Taylor Grasser and Theresa Osei did not record a mark.

Ilaria Villa placed second in the discus with a mark of 46.13m, earning eight team points and a provisional mark. In the hammer throw, Paola Castaldi (6th, 56.49m) and Adriel Holloway (7th, 56.10m) combined for five team points, both hitting provisional standards. Tyler Smith was 11th at 51.06m.
